A grieving widower claims to have been receiving calls and text messages from beyond the grave. Frank Jones, whose wife Sadie died five years ago, says he has been plagued by SMS messages and missed calls since she was buried—her beloved cellphone in the coffin beside her.

    • Although it's a sad story, the user comment was pretty funny. How can a cell phone stay powered after that many years?? Creepy...

    • If that's true, that's the best cell reception and battery life I've ever heard of for a cell phone! Would love to see the phone bill too...

    • alright, so the phone company should be able have records of these alleged texts and calls. as weird as it would be for this to be true, it is most likely someone still grieving or looking for few minutes in the spot light...maybe a combo of both...or even more strange...using this situation to gain both.

    • KLENGA: lol...that's a funny idea, that it's a pre-paid plan.. that would mean he's paying for her to haunt him..

    • A cell phone battery cannot last that long. It is obviously someone messing with the poor guy, which is even more sick and twisted than if the texts were actually coming from the grave (which is pretty much impossible).

    • Looks like those immortal spirits are getting a bit more tech-savvy when it comes to haunting people these days. This is a look at the 21st century widower. Poor guy; he needs help.

    • I'm surprised the service provider hasn't been mentioned yet. This could turn out to be a great advertising campaign!

    • okay, let's just suspend all reality for a second, and ASSUME this woman is texting her family and stuff, and that yes, the batter CAN last 10 to 15 years.. but, what about phone service? did this widow husband really not cancel her phone service in the 5 years she's been gone? and if there's no number..why does it matter if she was buried with her cell? she's not using her cell to text them, or her old number would appear...

i just think these guys are getting random texts meant for someone else (since there is no number and they never say the texts were meant for them) and they're thinking it's from their late mom/wife..

it IS a creepy thought, none the less...

    • this just shows how far we've potentially progressed as a society in premature burial preventative technology Gone are the days of elaborate cantilever-and-pulley signalling systems.

With the lack of exposure to light and harsh atmospheric elements, it's quite plausible that a cell phone battery could last up to 10-15 years in a coffin...

    • Um, perhaps the grave diggers took the phone once no one was looking. Those people steal caskets. It's not unbelievable to be think that two of them are sitting in a room laughing they're heads off.

Incoming text message: I'm hngry. Make my favr8 sndwch n put it on my grve 2nite.

    • I think this shows someone that misses his wife so much that he never wants to let her go. He needs something to think or remember her because the love of his life was taken from him. And i know that that would be the hardest thing to cope with. Let him get calls from his dead wife. Even if it isn't true, he has something to lean on...

    • I think it's viral marketing for another remake of an Asian horror film. If the guy starts receiving photos of her, and she clambers out of his phone, we know what's going on.

    • Sounds like normal cell phone bugs if you ask me. Poor man is grieving the loss of his loved ones, and grasping at straws. Or he just wanted to make the news....
