Seagull 'hit squad' coming soon to a seaside near you?

It seems the British seaside is under attack, not from 'kiss me quick' hats and sticks of rock, but from the bird everyone loves to hate, the seagull.

A Scottish environment minister, Michael Russell, has unveiled the new plans after promising to be "tough on seagulls and tough on the causes of seagulls".

Dumfries is set to get the seaside 'hit squads' in first, with them aiming to tackle the growing number of the pesky gulls by 'seeking out and destroying seagull nests,' and installing 'deterrents,' which will include 'wires and spikes' to prevent them from returning.

"Dumfries has a particular problem with gulls with regular reports of dive-bombing and litter strewn around the town after a seagull has raided a bin.

"I even read this week about a young paperboy who has had to abandon his deliveries due to constant attacks from the birds."

    • I live in the city centre and seagulls are everywhere. Whenever there is a half-full bin, they make the worst mess and they are just the biggest pain ever. I am glad the Scottish government plans to do something about them ...
