Why you shouldn't let your three year old get henna tattoos on the street, Reason #476:

He might have an adverse reaction to said "henna" that will leave a burn and permanent scar in the shape of whatever cartoon character you let him get.

    • I remember when I was little, my brother stole my pack of temporary tattoos and put them all on his butt. I was so mad - this would have been the sweetest revenge.

    • I am a tattoo artist of over 10 years and just to clear some stuff up for everyone on here---

Henna ink is NOT mixed by tattoo artists--most of the time it is pre-mixed by manufacturers-- it is never a good thing to use on toddlers as the article speaks of--
To clarify--the money grubber at your local tourist trap doing henna designs-selling t-shirts and cheap sunglasses are NOT tattoo artists.
To check out real tattoos go to
      http://www.oneshotstudioinc.com
I am MGN on the site.

I have heard of this kind of thing before on a young girl who was scarred by a tourist beach place that used henna for a dolphin henna "tattoo"
The family of the girl sued the tourist store and the company that made the henna paste.

      Yes--I did say paste.
Henna is not really ink but more of a paste that dyes the skin.

For very young children their skin is easily irritated and henna dyes the skin so that the design lasts much longer than a lick and stick temporary tattoo.
Tell your friends--Tell all the parents you know--

Better to buy some decal transfer tattoos from a bubblegum machine then have a bart simpson scare for years to come!!!

    • Doesn't this qualify as a kind of miracle? Bart's first miracle? I think you need three to become an official church-sanctioned saint, so he's well on the way.

    • Wow! Not what he or his parents bargained for, but I am sure there is some treatment that can decrease the visibility of the scars drastically ... in saying that, let's hope he really, really likes the Simpsons for the rest of his life!

    • From the article:

A genuine henna tattoo should fade within 10 days and the ink is usually a red-brown colour.

But the ink used on Vinnie's skin was black, suggesting it contained a hair dye chemical called PPD (paraphenylenediamine).

PPD is often mixed with the henna by tattoo artists abroad because it is cheap.

A high concentration of PPD is used which can cause dermatitis when in contact with the skin.

Not only could Vinnie have scarring but his reaction could mean he now has a lifelong allergy to PPD.

    • It is more of the low grade henna that is bought that does this, some of the cheaper pigments are known to do this. Either way one should always do a spot test when applying a tattoo. Henna is known for this and that is why you should research things before you put them on your body.......
