All of your answers shows why we have such a problem in this country. When that little girl was killed years ago and everybody was all up in arms about the fact that nobody reported or cared about it, nobody could believe that people just sat back and let it happen. But here you go, a case like this and there are people saying "it is none of your business". This is child neglect pure and simple, but just try to get people to agree on any of it. Some think the smoking is bad and some think it is good. Some think the drinking is bad and some think it is "cool". And then again, for some it is only the sex they are concerned about.
The fact is, this mother is killing her daughter. And she is doing it right out in public, and nobody cares. They cant agree because then they would also be guilty. How many parents do you know that buy cigarettes for their children? And then look down on a parent whos child tests positive for drugs. Whats the difference? This is no different than a parent that kills their own child, its just more accepted.

My mother started smoking at 12, but since we know the risk this is just a health tragedy waiting to happen, plus her daughter would be smelling like cigarettes, and Freedent when she heads to school. Like the girl next to me right now in the Library. EEEH

this girl is totally getting the wrong message, now everytime she does something right she is going to reward herself with something, now its cigarretes, tomorrow could be anything.

on the other hand they have the most open relationship ive seen, the mother doesnt want anyhting to do with her kid but she sure knows what she is up to, thats good right?

Interesting, nothing like an episode of Baywatch but I think it is somewhat the lesser of evils. The mother would rather be growing with the child rather than feeding her bits of life and then throwing her to the wolves. I think that this girl would definitely be smoking behind her mother's back if she wasn't with her mother. I don't want to be one to judge to tell people how to raise their children because they are not my children and this is an interesting peak into somebody else's life.

That horrible, he mother should be jailed! That's one of the worst things I've even read, a parent basically letting their child kill themselves.

I was doing far worse when i was 13 but if it wasnt for my parents not helping me get my life together even after my one year in rehab at 16 i am sure i would be dead. This lady is out of her mind today is "fags" tomorrow is coke, then dope, then death. This just supports my idea that we should have to get a lisence befor we can start having kids. DUMB parent, if your having that much problems with her then get someone to set her in her place, shes not supposed to run your life, you run hers until shes able to know right from wrong.

Crap, giving her the cigarette is nothing,I think her statement (the mother) "If I ground her, I'm just punishing myself because I have to put up with her in the house" is the most telling....it is too much bother for the mom, that is worse than ANYTHING else that is being done.
