Can a "strong" kiss rupture an eardrum?

A woman in her 20s has been diagnosed with a broken ear drum apparently kissing her boyfriend, reports Shanghaiist. Doctors have suggested that as the inner ear is linked to the mouth, a strong kiss may have caused an imbalance in air pressure between the two inner ears and lead to a broken ear drum.

Ouch.
