Marcus Schrenker, an Indiana pilot whose marriage was deteriorating and was facing a state investigation, assumedly was in flight from Indiana to Florida when he reported his windshield shattered and caused him to bleed. Marcus' Schrenker's single-engine Piper Malibu crashed in north Florida but when the police investigated the crash site they found the door ajar, no sign of blood and no broken window.
Authorities have assumed that Marcus had put the plane on autopilot, and parachuted out of it above Birmingham, Alabama.
Monday, a man using Marcus' drivers license reported a canoe incident to the police in Childersburg, Alabama. The officers supplied him with a hotel room before being informed of the crash. Coming back to interrogate Schrenker and found he had paid for the room in cash, put on a black cap and running through the woods to the next hotel.
An amazing and lucky escape.
