I remember when the original toys that inspired Ultimate Muscle were going fore a couple hundred dollars in japan. I played with them at my grandmas house when I was a kid.

sometimes i wonder if there are nerds making reproductions of this particular game, i could do this myself and i'm not really that skilled so i know there must be many people that are easily capable of recreating these so called rare games who could even tell the difference really.

The gold cartridge is considered the penultimate game collectible, Like a Honus Wagner baseball card or an Altair personal computer.

Wow. I have the original John Madden Football for the Apple IIe, on the old 5 1/4" floppy disk, with the original box and both the offensive and defensive playbooks intact. I don't know if it works anymore; I have no way of testing it (who's got a 5 1/4" floppy drive these days!?); but I wonder what it's worth?
I even have the slip to mail off and order the NFLPA disk to get the actual players names for the '87 and '88 seasons, playbooks for specific teams, etc... I remember Joe Montana was called "Joe Idaho", the '85 Bears were called "The Blitzers", etc... Workarounds for the pre-licensing days, I guess.
I wish I had some way of finding out if this thing worked...

This is a common occurrence. Odd considering that the game has had its rom dumped and only lasts 6mins, but I suppose the allure is similar to that of a classic car, old hockey card or a rare painting.... Something rare commands a high value.
