That's interesting, I'm curious to see what effect the quips will have on him: will it make him want to rebel against authority even more? or will it embarrass him to the point where he wants to go straight? If the latter occurs, appealing to perpetrators' insecurities might be an effective new tactic. Forget the whole 'good cop, bad cop routine', just tell the ugly bastards "You Can't Rob Banks! You're a Shrekkie!"
