I believe it you are correct about JJammer returning under another profile. I suspect it to be ThorThunder. He comments on this very article, 2nd Page. ThorThunder challenges the comments made against JJammer, in a way that would seem much like JJammers own tone.

I don't feel the point is just about that one comment, but that others have made similar comments with no punishment because of their standing with in this community. And just as in REAL life we don't appreciate when one person gets special privileges over another just because of their position or popularity - it's not right. The next step is to say "nothing's fair, life's not fair", but on a website dedicated to showing "Current" issues and hosting an open forum, there should be fairness.

I often times got the feeling he was being argumentative just to keep the thing going, like the word goading. But there were other times that he was right on target.
But I agree that there are certain lines that should not be crossed.
The other day someone was using the N word in a thread, referring to themselves as being someone's N. I thought it was an offensive use of the term and relating it to slavery. I flagged both comments, but received no reply and I still don't know if the comment was deleted or edited. So I do understand that the criteria for deletion can seem arbitrary, based on who is reviewing it, and perhaps even the context.

From a search on Current for the N word, I found that there are 72 pages of articles that have that word, so I guess it must not be considered that offensive to use on Current.
So I guess I don't get how that racial slur of Jammer's is any worse than the ones I have read on those articles that have the N word. I thought the N word was way more offensive than calling someone black.
Or is it the reference to gold in the mouth and a gun in the hand, obviously to me some sort of reference to GANGSTER RAPPERS, who typically use the N word as a cornerstone of their rhetoric?

I can tell you from experience - liberal is not the problem. If you have ANY strongly worded comment or opinion, it is usually not received well by the site anymore. I actually stopped making comments for a while and don't really care about putting up articles because if it matters - you most likely will want to make a strong point.
Articles like painting the streets with bike tires and Megan Fox's (EDITED) are warmly welcomed while discussions on race are hidden. I love this site but it just isn't ever gonna b the same as it was when it started. Contributing to the "downfall" ;) is Twitter, and a lack of interest (or maybe I should just say attention) in anything important by the demographic well...SUCKS. Once people notice that you are getting attention for your issues, they troll you or follow you - including the staff, who does have a big say on what is put into the site. I agree that personal attacks are annoying and pointless, But I was edited for calling someone a "sicko" because they said that a dead celeb was a druggie (EDITED). So it just depends on who is trying to control the information, and who reports people they just don't agree with usually. We are mostly adults so I would hope that people just want to exchange info// say their opinion. Anyone that has been using the site for a while knows what's going on. I welcome debate, this is a political site, so CURRENTLY, get over it if something offends you. This isn't Disney.com ? - 2 years ago

Honestly good for Jay Jammer. He should wear it as a badge of pride that he finally got the operators of Current to overtly act on their biases for all to see. The hypocrisy of it all is that Current is run by a primarily liberal staff which is supposed to value civil liberties, like freedom of speech. But I guess Current's idea of freedom of speech only means the freedom to express a negative and repulsive opinion on anything that doesn't reflect Liberal/progressive ideas.

Ultimately,....some people just like to argue more than others. I think there was more of a basis in 'psychological/social' friction to this jammer exile than a motive that was "issue" based. You can be a real fascist A-hole and be polished and slick,.....and slide by socially.
You can also champion noble causes so stridently that your allies cringe,...and still hang with the pack. Or you can just enjoy being abrasive/argumentative somewhat for its own sake (wrong or right, with the truest of truth seeking motives) and your peers will eventually try to remove you like a splinter. And that is just the social reality.

I like Jammer's points about rural America getting short shrift in large media outlets. I have lived in the city and in small towns, and I have found that small town concerns are largely steamrolled by the needs of city dwellers, in the media and in the economic system. This unhealthy situation leads to communication breakdown and to small town dwellers being forced to live with lesser wealth and opportunity. In many large media outlets, small town voices are portrayed as ignorant if they vary from the prevailing opinions of urban areas, and people who live in the country are ridiculed when they try to speak.
For example, the constant ridicule of the Tea Party advocates on Current.com drowns out legitimate concerns of people who cannot afford higher taxes and whose lives depend upon economic opportunity where they live. Instead of separating those voices with rational concerns from those who are simply spewing hatred, many Current posters focus on easy ridicule at the expense of fostering a dialogue with people who have differing political views. I have been one of the worst offenders with my satirical jabs at conservatives, and I have justified my tack to myself by reminding myself that Karl Rove had no mercy when it came to political defamation. However, whatever pleasure or ego gratification I have gained from being clever does not make up for the alienation from people like Jammer, whose own stiff-necked bias sealed the fate of any rational discourse.
I need to be more careful about throwing stones while calling Republicans intolerant, and right wing commentators need to eschew the easy target in favor of trying to get at the truth. Who will go first? This is the unanswered question that, in my opinion, keeps Americans from finding solutions to modern problems.

You seem to say that political balance between the right and left is a correct place to be. But what if the right is evil and the left is good? What if the right condones murder and genocide (which it does) and the left calls for accountability and morality (which is does)? Should there be a balance there? Should right balance with wrong? Should we allow a few murders for every life? Is a little genocide OK?
-

-
-

-
Progresshiv:
I'm not sure that political balance is admirable, because, as you say, some ideas are innocently ignorant, willfully ignorant, or immoral. In such cases, it is weak and wrong to attempt compromise. For example, torture, murder, and genocide are never issues upon which to compromise.
However, in approaching the arguments which surround such issues, I believe it is smarter and more productive to not allow myself to be enticed into the snake pit of name-calling, character assassination, and egomaniacal insistence that I am right.
If, however, those with whom I disagree refuse to engage in civil discourse; if they smear my name or the names of my allies; if they refuse to concede, even when faced with empirical evidence that refutes their arguments; then I have to realize that they are no longer conversing; they are intimidating.
In such situations, I resort to satirical ridicule to try to win the argument. If those with whom I disagree were to proceed to physical threats or actual violence against me or others, I would respond in kind to protect myself and my loved ones.
The difficulty comes in deciding at which point I will take up physical weapons to respond to perceived threats. Should it be the moment when my opponent disagrees with me, the moment I see a gun pointed at me, or at a point somewhere in between? In the past, there is no clear historical marker to guide me: Hitler was allowed to thrive too long before good people stood up to cast him down. George W. Bush was removed peacefully from office. Richard Nixon was forced to resign, while Reagan was allowed to gut American progress in ways which still echo.
When someone like Jammer tells me I'm ignorant or that all liberals are fools, do I immediately grab my pistol and go hunting, or do I try to establish a meaningful rational connection in order to understand, then to be understood? I think that reaching out can forestall the need to lash out, and that is what I was trying to say.
Thank you for reminding me and others that, as the old country song goes, "you have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything."

I have had a conversation or two with JJ offline, and he is passionate about what he believes. I think he is often propelled by an urgency to defend what he sees as an unrelenting assault on his belief system, and while I try to focus on the places where we can agree, he frequently digresses into verbal assault with those he disagrees with, and doesn't recognize that he isn't defending his position, or any position when he does that.
He forces our hand, over and over again with his relentlessness, and while he can be exhausting at times, there is also something very bright, albeit narcissistic about him.

Slogan!
"Fair & Balanced" is a trademarked slogan used by the broadcaster. The slogan was originally used in conjunction with the phrase "Real Journalism." Comedian and senator Al Franken used the slogan in the subtitle for his 2003 book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. In the book, he cites examples of what he claims to be Fox News' bias. On August 22, 2003, Fox sued based upon its trademark on the phrase.Fox News dropped the lawsuit three days later after Judge Denny Chin refused their request for an injunction. Chin denied the injunction and said that the case, Fox v. Franken, was "wholly without merit, both factually and legally". He went on to suggest that Fox News' trademark on the phrase "fair and balanced" could be invalid.[citation needed]
In December 2003, FNC found itself on the other end of a legal battle concerning the slogan, when AlterNet filed a cancellation petition with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to have FNC's trademark rescinded as misdescriptive. AlterNet included the documentary film Outfoxed as supporting evidence in its case. After losing early motions, AlterNet withdrew its petition and the USPTO dismissed the case.
In 2008, FNC used the "We Report, You Decide" slogan, referring to "You Decide 2008" which was FNC's original slogan for reporting on matters involving the election, and the candidates.

Whether the J Jammer is young or old, black or white, it seems that he(?) was definitely contentious... but the point he's put forward seems to have merit. There IS a bias here on current and just a little bit of open minded scrutiny easily reveals that as obviously so... It does gives cause to make one wonder about equally fair and balanced analysis of content reviews.

Jay Jammer did engage in a lot of keyboard tough guy antics but he is right about Current being far to liberal. I am a young adult and chose a career in the military. I have been deployed overseas 5 times in 7 years, bled, killed and lost brothers fighting the war on terror. Yes, the previous administration lied to us about Iraq and betrayed our trust but the danger is real. You can really get slammed on Current if you defer in the least bit from the average Current blogger. I am neither a liberal or a conservative, I have my own opinions that don't follow some pre-formed set of political views. I believe in human rights, social services and international diplomacy but I am more conservative when it comes to crime, national security and a strong pro-active military.............Not all young adults are as liberal as many of you believe..........B

Being passionate or idealistic is not just a trait among "young liberals"....I agree with you that your youth is a time when the world is new and magical. But, I think to many young adults these days live life of extreme leisure. The have some extremely narrow views on many important, complicated issues facing the world today. They make decisions without weighing out the pro's and con's. Also many seem incapable of listening to any opinions that doesn't fit into their narrow view of the world. If you disagree with the President~your an idiot, if you strongly believe in national security your a fascist. I chose a career in the military right out of High school and I have seen and done things that I am ashamed of. I never agreed with Bush2 and I am filled with rage when I think about how the Bush Administration lied to us. I have been called some incredibly horrible and personal things on this site. I was even told that I should kill myself to make up the karma deficit I created by my actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's fine, I am proud of the choices I made in my life and proud to be a soldier in the U.S. Army, even if my government betrays and lies to me. There is real evil out there and some people really don't realize how close this world is to anarchy. I am some sort of neo-con, in fact I am an Irish Catholic kid from Boston who is proud to be American even with all her faults and blemishes.

Jay Jammer seems to be upset at Current just because he thinks Current is being liberal because he doesn't agree with all of the stories. He can be upset at Current for any reason. But like he said in his article, Current's target audience is young adults and young adults tend to be more liberal or more modest. Young adults support gay marriage and the legalization of marijuana more than old adults.
