To Be Green

LittleTreeMedia
Following a politician on the campaign trail provides a different look into today's politics. You get to see and hear what the media or the average voter does not.

David Pond was hired to make campaign commercials for Cliff Thornton, the first African- American and the first Green Party candidate to run for governor in the state of Connecticut, but kept the cameras running. What was achieved was a behind- the- scenes look of the Green Party's gubernatorial campaign.

    • Congratulations on being picked for TV!

It may not be easy being Green, but it sure makes the most sense.

Check out Sister Beatrice Explores. She's Green as can be.

    • Congratulations on getting accepted for TV. I liked this piece very much. As a Green Party member, I am encouraged to know there are people like Cliff Thornton and his followers fighting for True Democracy. Well done.

If you have 5 minutes, please check out Drawn For Life for a Green Light consideration.

Looking forward to seeing more from you Little Tree Media.
      Peace, Morgan

    • This is what its all about...
To make any kind of change we have to stand up and be counted...
This is a good story, well done, the message carries the piece straight through...

People we are at WAR- we must get involved and speak out .
This shows just how hard we have to fight to make the change we seek.

    • Great coverage! You can't have democracy without debate from everyone on the ballot. The democrats and republicans are doing everything they can (with both corporate and public funding) to silence the greens. Yet, the greens continue to gain support and popularity because they believe in social and environmental justice for everyone.

    • A passionate piece - Well done and thank you! The only things that bothered me were a couple of static interview shots that were composed in such a way that distracted me, and the quaity of the voice of the segment host, who slurred his words and spoke too quickly (and who was seen only at the beginning of the piece ... to where did he disappear, at the end?)

    • It's very compelling and timely. However, I didn't like the combative approach that the campaign manager took with Kevin Deneen. I believe strongly in the Green Party's principals, but we should proceed in a dignified manner. Being accusatory and insulting simply ruins the work of so many Green Party members. We all wish for peace and hope that the important issues are addressed by government. In order to be taken seriously and to be respected we must be respectful and use our wits to get the word out. Please, let us all do our homework, raise awareness and work in a positive fashion to take the Green Party forward. Let us not resort to disrespectfulness and pettiness to get attention.

    • Thanks for the GL on my piece, "A Casualty of the Promiseland." link In response to your question, he actually didn't say why he chose to live on the streets. I would assume it has most to do with his drug/alcohol use. One interesting fact that we didn't include, is he mentioned that his mom and siblings would drop by to tell him about his kids, give him food, etc... (really strange). Any way, looks like it's safe to go ahead and congratulate you on getting picked for air time. Cheers. And again, thanks for the GL.

    • Really interesting piece. The two-party system of government really does stifle the democratic process. If only there were a more viable third party option.

P.S. In your end credits, you spelled political incorrectly. That should definitely be fixed before this thing goes on air.

    • The Green Party has a lot of good ideas about ecology, economy, and democracy. Unfortunately, politics is not about ideas, it's about money, and the only green that the current political system listens to is money. We don't have government of the people, by the people, abd for the people. We have government of the money, by the money, and for the money. It's more like one dollar one vote than one person one vote. It's depressing to see how corrupt our political system is.

The issue of participation in elections is critical to this country. We need more people to understand that there are alternative ideas for making good policy in this country.

    • Republicans and Democrats are too entrenched in partisan politics to be a positive force in America. The time has come for Americans to show their solidarity against the corruption that threatens our precious freedoms and the health of the environment. Tell your friends: Vote Green!

    • in brazil vote is an obligation. if you dont vote, you have to deal with burocratic papers and shit to say you were not able for some reason to vote... which is super simple, but even more simple is to go there on the election day (which is always a sunday) to vote... who vote here???

" Of the people,by the people, for the people" my ass! It's all about the money. when 1 lobbiest controls more votes in congress than an entire state it is no longer a democracy.

    • the only thing i would perhaps edit out is some of the conflict w/ the governer's campaign manager. whereas i do think it important to see how obstacles present themselves, i think there's a little too much energy emanating from Cliff's campaign manager (specifically in the thrid cut showing the three of them)... no big deal, perhaps...

    • It's important for the Green Party to rise and become a party the average American will no longer view as just a joke but a legitimate choice. We are moving in this direction, at least in Illinois, as 10% or so of all voters chose Illinois GP candidate Rich Whitney. I can proudly say that I voted for him and even got my mother to as well.

    • had a good message and story, but the first min and some parts in it were just bad, you dont go up to someone and say "why did you lie to us" sure they did but if you still have respects your argument is more powerfull

just take some stuff out, keep the letter and the part after he says "why did you lie to us" about 10 sec latter is fine, and it would be a amazin vid

    • The Green Party...I wonder if they'll ever make it into the main streem? Any way, Great expose' on the political process. It's really interesting to see what candidates have to go through. I can see why they don't want everyone and their brother out their saying they're running, but man if you get on the ballot you should really be able to participate in any debate. Ralph Nader...ha ha ha. That guy makes me laugh. Any way, good job. GL. Also, how are things going for him right now? I'd love to know.

By the way, check out my Sony V-CAM. link It's definately not serious like this, but I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say about it. It's just a bunch of foolishness really, so be prepared.

    • The candidate and staff are right on the mark. The two major parties have a monopoly and have strangled the life out of true democratic processes. They mention that we're essential a dictatorship, through the combined collusion of the Democratic and Republican agenda. The true issues that need addressing are not being heard, because the majority parties don't them to be heard. Why? Because we're no longer a country "of the people, and for the people". The two major parties have been bought by, and are beholden to, special interests (multinational corporations) and the wealthy. The American people need to wake up to this fact and take action to take their country, and their lives, back. I feel that the airing of this documentary is one small step in the road toward achieving that possibility. Let's hope so.

    • the issues raised here are very important for the future of usa's democracy. in many south american countries the voter participation is much higher than ours and officials are elected by real majorities of the population. i believe this is due to the irrelevancy of many of our candidates. including third parties in debates could help change this.
