Screwtops aren't the only solution. Domaine Chandon, in Napa, is putting crown tops on some of their sparkling wines. There's something perversely classy about using a beer bottle opener to pop a nice bottle of bubbly.

In post-apocalyptic San Francisco, when all corkscrews have been stolen by our alien overlords and melted so we cannot use them as weapons, and all glass has been hardened to the strength of diamonds by their radioactive emissions, you will only be able to open screw-top wines. Yeah, that and the environment make it the perfect choice for me.

I prefer cork. Let's leave the screw tops to Thunderbird and MD 2020. Cork make for a great look on floors as well: http://www.mosaictilemarket.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=61.
