    • Really impressed - everybody should watch this pod !

Good to see a cheerful environmental message. Wow even the solar panels are recycled !!!

Here in the UK we don't always get sun but it is bright today. Solar panels even work on a grey day which is good news for brits.

I am inspired by the idea of making the panels - not sure how feasible that is but I enjoy an electronics challenge and it may reduce the cost.

(twodee, I hope you put Matt's head back on after the spinning head shot)

    • What is the average cost of these solar panels? Bought those light bulbs a while ago they sell them in CA at the 99c store and even at thrift stores. They cost less and save energy what a great thing!

    • That was such an awesome idea; I am all for the use of solar energy. I just know though, that many people will be stubborn to any energy change.

I'm just wondering how well receptive the solar cells are to the sun. Coming from Seattle, we don't get as much sun, as say, San Francisco or something. Maybe Seattle can find some way of working the constant rain we get into energy? Hehe

    • That was very interesting. I always like to have better understanding of how things like solar panels actually work--very informative. And, I love the creative way you started it off!

    • olenholm, I have heard that before. Not as bad as you think....
      read on....

"According to a recent report by the Washington, D.C.-based Earth Policy Institute, a worldwide shift to CFLs would permit the closing of more than 270 coal-fired power plants. Switching to CFLs in the U.S. alone could save the energy output of 80 plants.

For environmentalists, the clincher is that by requiring less energy, CFLs will actually cut down on mercury pollution produced by coal burning, and EPA agrees.

"By using less electricity, CFLs help reduce mercury emissions from coal-burning power plants, which are the largest source of human-caused mercury emissions in the United States," said agency press officer Ernest Jones

    • Compact Flourescent Lightbulbs are NOT good for the environment. They contain Mercury, which is a neurotoxin and it enters your food supply. Do not use these bulbs. They also give off a horrendous light.

    • We shot this video a year ago. As of January 2008, Great fourtune has come to this and other of Matt's ideas. While we will be the only house with these panels we are waiting to see what the new company gives birth to as it takes shape over the next year. We are very excited for Matt. Thank you to all who have supported this video along the way.

    • I'm still waiting for a way that will allow people who don't own their homes to be more energy efficient in the type of electricity they use instead of having to use the type of electricity their landlords use. There is nothing in my state. Good video.

    • This is really cool that this guy is using all this recycled stuff too help reduce energy. Even the first 5 seconds of this clip shows such a simple way for people to begin to reduce costs and take a step towards a greener earth. Just a simple light bulb switch will be a major change if we can get everyone to do it.

Take time to go make a simple change.
