Greenpoint, Brooklyn is a quiet residential neighborhood in New York CIty. But underneath part of the neighborhood lies the remains of an oil spill that goes back 100 years. Exxon Mobil and others have been working with the DEC since 1990 and have to date remediated half of the 9 million gallon spill. Still some argue that the clean up should be over by now and are concerned about potential health and environmental risks. The Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and the advocacy group Riverkeeper are both suing Exxon in hopes that they will step up the act and that some soil and vapor testing will be done. Exxon did some tests in 2005 and found no damage and these tests were approved by the DEC. Still the DEC is in the process of conducting their own soil test an those suing would like to see a comprehensive health study as well.

I've lived in Greenpoint my whole life and they didn't mention once that it is the largest Polish community in New York City. They only talked about the new influx of people moving in.
