Personaly i think global warming is an issue, however we have no control over it. i think that if Al Gore became president he wouldn't have a big impact on the issue. We do need to ban together and put an end to this to protect future genorations. but i'm not sure al goore is the president for 2008 elections

Who needs the media when we have NASA, NOAA, NAS, the UK Met Office and the IPCC?
Only fools learn about climatology from the Telegraph and other mass media outlets.

I strongly believe that global warming is an issue that needs our immediate attention, and immediate political action. But I am wary as to whether it is the issue on which the 2008 candidates can win the attention of the majority of voters.
Once in power, Al Gore can and should take climate change on directly...until then, focus on winning the election.

Janfor Gore I am lobbying in Australia and blogging like mad. I think President Al Gore would be best at choosing to focus on the NPT and the Iran issue at the moment. he could refocus the democrats. I need a figure like him for the documentary suggested on my site.
Unite the peace movement in one place at http://peacesource.net make the separate streams one river. Download the satire and send it round. Phone your friends and ask them to circulate and make groups on my social networking site. Send constant emails and information to all your politicians. and those of other countries. Phone up the radio stations. Blog on mass circulation Newspapers.

I have very high regard and respect for Al Gore. He should have been President NOW!
However, he cannot win an election on one issue. He is doing a great job at what he is doing now as the Nobel Prize indicates. We need him to continue this job, not run for President. He has suffered enough!

Nice video, Don. Keep it up!
Although the current gaggle of Democratic candidates have mentioned global warming, I don't think they have put its significance in perspective otherwise that would be the first thing they talk about when talking about any other topic because it's all interconnected. We need a paradygm shift, and we need it now. I think there are some very good candidates running; I just don't think any one of them has a handle on what the global warming crisis really means in the very near future. There are only a few years left before we reach the tipping point. We can't accept a candidate that says, and oh, by the way, I think global warming is important too. I haven't heard any initiatives from the candidates that will take this bull by the horns, the corporatists be damned.

So why aren't people demanding representatives and "candidates" address this? And if you aren't, aren't you then just using this crisis for your own agenda? I just saw posts on this very site regarding Edwards and Obama regarding global warming. Is it that some people really care about this, or that they are just saying this to make a point about pushing Mr.Gore into this horserace? Edwards, Obama, Dodd, and I think even Clinton have mentioned global warming as being part of their platform, and I do think that is because Mr. Gore's Nobel win has moved them in that direction, and actually that is a good thing, because progress will not come unless ALL candidates for all offices in all parties transcend the politics of this and see this as a moral imperative. I think that is really what Mr. Gore hopes happens ... consensus that is non partisan. We can't make real progress without it, or without people who care about it demanding it across the board.

This is the story of the Chinese Coal mine
Concern and action is needed, he said, because of the environmental impact -- especially of mega-fires burning in India, China and elsewhere in Asia. One coal fire in northern China, for instance, is burning over an area more than 3,000 miles wide and almost 450 miles long.
....He estimated that the Chinese fires alone consume 120 million tons of coal annually. That's almost as much as the annual coal production in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois combined. The Chinese fires also make a big, hidden contribution to global warming through the greenhouse effect, scientists said. Each year they release 360 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, as much as all the cars and light trucks in the United States.....

Special Report Earth
CO2: Don't count on the trees* 27 October 2007
* From New Scientist Print Edition.
* Douglas Fox
It has long been assumed that forests will be the "get out of jail free card" we need to help soak up spiralling carbon dioxide emissions. Much of that hope has been pinned on tropical forests, the so-called "lungs of the planet", with some studies suggesting that elevated CO2 levels are allowing rainforests to grow more quickly, locking away the extra carbon in wood or soil mulch. Now measurements from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) on Barro Colorado Island, and from other sites around the world are starting to suggest quite the opposite.read more on the New Scientist Web Site
It would seem that we need some other means of absorbing CO2 as well as producing less. Stress is settiing in.
Bush and Howard got this year's King Canute Prize

Does anyone know http://peacesource.net/peatburn.pdf if tehre is any concerted effort to put out the Borneo peat burn, this and a Chinese mine burn is supposedly causing at least 50% o fthe CO2? - 4 years ago

Well said!! Mr. Gore, do you have a response?
We're working hard to get Al Gore on the ballot in Virginia. The process is somewhat inefficient because when I ask passers-by to sign the State Board of Elections' petition to put Al Gore's name on the VA Democratic primary ballot, they first express surprise that he may run (we have to debate the "no plans" statement for 2 or 3 minutes), then they sign the petition, next they thank me for my hard work (some bless me) and then tell me how wonderful it would be to have Gore as our president (for another 20 minutes or so)!
