'That Is Not a Drug. It's a Leaf'

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has raised eyebrows by telling an interviewer for the British edition of GQ that marijuana "is not a drug." Aaron McLear, Schwarzenegger's press secretary, says he was only kidding:

Of course the governor understands marijuana is a drug. It's like when he goes on Leno or The Daily Show, if you took something like that out of context, it might seem shocking but it was in a silly entertainment context.

    • Um, what marijuana users do YOU know that can remember? Lmao. I also disagree with the wasting your life part, but it really depends on your level of use. I have an occasional alcoholic beverage and I can eat, sleep, have sex, remember, and I feel fine the next day. I mean for every substance, good or bad for you, there is always a limit, and one should always use responsibly. However I AM against some other illicit drug uses altogether. Some drugs should never be put into the body ever. Mainly man made illicit drugs. But hey, I'm not a doctor.

    • babar3;
I wouldn't put marijuna in the same category as booze.
Alcohol is debilitating....slurs your speech, can't think,
talk, or drive. The added bonus is you can't remember
what you did. Marijuna users can remember they eat
laugh, have sex, and sleep plus you don't wake up with
a hangover. And it can't waste your life. That's government propaganda. They're upset because they
can't make millions for ceo's and themselves like alcohol.

    • Funny joke actually. But yeah, laughing at Mary Jane sort of is like laughing at all those people who have been arrested when with her. Who knows what will ever happen with this.

    • A recent article by Associated Press looked at the European way of dealing with marijuana versus the American criminalization method. The drug use is down in Europe by treating drug use as a personal problem but not a criminal offense. Our jails are overflowing with non-violent offenders. I believe it falls under the Constitution as a pursuit of happiness, so long as you are not harming another person. Mariuana can waste your life, but so can booze, gambling, and numerous other habits. Legalizing Marijuana would solve a lot of problems and give the FBI and Police other activities to explore, like terrorism and crimes against humanity. Peace.

    • What Governor Schwarzenegger should of said is that
marijuana is a grown natural drug compared to the
pharmaceuticals that aren't natural and marijuna
has been proven to be beneficial for some people.

    • I am from California, and I am often embarrassed that he runs this state.

But when I travel and someone asks me how Californians could elect Schwarzenegger, I yield to this simple question:

      "Um, have you seen Commando?"

That usually settles even the most antagonistic person in the room.
