    • I love mate. I usually make it in my French press, but just using a tea strainer works great as well. I enjoy adding juice to my mate, but my favorite way it just plain.
One of my favorite brands is Eco Teas at:
      http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/ecoteas/home.d2w/report

Another one of my favorites is Mendo Mate. It's a locally owned and operated business (to me). There website is cool, you can even listen to Reggae while you order (you get to choose a theme for the site).

Guayaki is also the bomb and is usually available in bulk or in the bottle!

Mate also has about 3/4 the caffeine as coffee, so it helps keep me energiz.......... wait, jug's boiling, gotta go. :-)

    • joshua, good to know u drink it. w or w/out sugar?

born and raised at the end of the world, well, almost, buenos aires

you can also make mate cocido, the "drink" version of it:

CUP MATE (Mate Cocido) Mate can be prepared in a cup using loose leaves, just like any other infusion like tea. It is called "mate cocido" in Argentina. Like many other infusions, it can be enjoyed hot or cold, and can be sweetened with sugar or honey according to taste. You can add milk too.

    • I drink mate almost every day. It's been reported to be even better for you than green tea, which I also love. While drinking it, I avoided the office plague but then got sick as soon as I was off it for a week!

You can find mate in convenient tea bags as well as the traditional loose bags at many health stores, as well as Trader Joe's. I wish more cafes stocked it!

    • My son traveled to Argentina last year and came back drinking Mate. He loves it and has recommended to me. I have a bit of a hard time with the bitterness. I guess it takes time to adjust to.
