This is a digital edition, so to see the interview you have to go to page 54 by using the controls at the top of the main page. You can click on shortcuts then table of contents and it should be at the top. And from reading so far it is obvious to me the clear and present danger this planet is now in and how that new level of consciousness he speaks of is where we will find the solutions. He is surely a global leader of vision. And again, he mentions that the paradigm shift will see people laying down in front of bulldozers to stop coal fired plants from being built. He reportedly also stated through his office that he was considering an invitation from the Rainforest Action Network to do just that. This is what he is talking about regarding activism as stated in The Assault on Reason. This is what that shift will have to contain in order to be successful...US. And it is a consciousness that goes beyond the political to the moral and spiritual essence of our very beings which when reached will simply tell us that and other forms of activism to make those changes are the right things to do now. The fact that he would now even consider such an invitation clearly illustrates to me the urgency of the crisis we now face and must address in mitigating the damage we are doing to this planet. Even candidates for office will need that paradigm shift to see beyond their own political biases to do what is morally right. All I know is, that for him to be the leader of this at this time is no coincidence. This is THE issue, and this is the most important position he has ever had in his entire life and is the one I do believe he will be most remembered for. He is an environmentalist above all else, and I respect that. And I am way past ready for that shift.

    • Janforgore -FYI -you could not vote twice on the same machine with same e-mail it would just override your last vote and DFA assured me that they are very diligent regarding the integrety of the vote. I don't see however how they read the heart of the voter. None the less, I am insulted by your insistance that we are disrespecting the Honorable Al Gore! On the contrary, we are using the knowlege that he himself has given us through his books and speeches and current tv to make our choice of leader clear and bypass the mainstream media that is not listening. You yourself seem to be quite obsessed with the man, why is it so hard to believe that other sincere people like yourself agree with you and are following his lead. I think he is a big boy and doesn't need you to defend his honor. If he were annoyed by the movement he would tell us to stop and his office would make short work of you if you called, they do not by the way, if anything they are quite friendly and patient. You however are disprespecting us and I request you cease. Your opinion on matters of public interest are welcome but the insults regarding the draft Gore groups are getting a bit feverish and unwarrented, especially since you have put yourself in the middle of domains that will be obviously ripe with draftgore people.

    • I apologize, I wrote it prior to learning about efforts of the fine and admired candidate Kucinich. It was the prelimenary information I had and time was running out on the poll so there was not time to research.

      I stand corrected and offer my sincere apologies to Kucinich supporters and readers Congragulations to Rep. Kucinich for his standing in this poll!

    • I agree. If he doesn't care to read it, he doesn't have to. And I don't think he needs to be defended by anyone. Or against any one.

    • Where are some of you coming from? You should know full well that Dennis Kucinich put a video on You Tube specifically asking his supporters to go to that poll and vote for him. I saw it yesterday. Why is it that with that and with all Mr.Gore has stated, some still continue to harass him? I am beginning to think some of those in "draft Gore" are right wingers. The longer you spin your wheels in the mud the more time you give Hillary Clinton to amass money, poll numbers, and all the things you all think matter in this horserace. Therefore, I say it is the Draft Gore movement that has done more to help her than any other group, because as Al Gore stated in this interview, HE IS NOT RUNNING THIS CYCLE even though he is not closing the door on anything in his life, which BTW is the remark of a mature person who has learned lessons in life not the coy political manipulatior you see him as. It is amazing how people will post links to his interviews and not even read them or care to discuss them based on their merits. I think it is very disrespectful that you all keep pounding him, and with this you look like fools doing so with your begging people and your paranoia as if ONE poll makes the difference in anything. As it is, the DFA poll allows you to vote numerous times with the same e-mail address and name! What kind of polll is that? In my estimation it is time to stop harranging this good man and join together for this planet. And if you truly in your heart can't join Mr. Gore in what he is doing now which is more important than sitting online all day pumping up some :poll:, then perhaps those who can't need to question what it is they really support.

    • Please, please, everyone reading this go to http://www.democracyforamerica.com/ and vote for Gore in the pulse poll as a write in. He was ahead all along until a few days ago and Kucinich started to soar. The Kucinich people say they have not done anything to get this going. We suspect a R wing rigging. Please everyone go and counter this and pass the word!

    • In his own words:///

      Al Gore///

      by ja n n s . w e n n e r ///

      There is a feeling abroad right now, especially with the Nobel Prize, that the presidency could be yours for the asking. Do you feel sad or guilty about saying no to that?///

      No, not at all. ///

      There are obviously people asking you all the time. You don’t feel an obligation to the historical moment?///

      Well, I understand that point of view. But I personally don’t feel as if I have to apologize for devoting so much of my life to a different kind of campaign to bring about a change in consciousness and an elevated sense of urgency about solving the climate crisis. It’s a global challenge, and I’m working around the world to try to bring about this change in thinking.///

      snip///
      You remain the vessel of a lot of people’s hopes. What do you say to those people? ///

      Well, thank you for feeling that way about me. Please trust me to make good decisions about where I can do the most good, and don’t automatically assume that running for president again is the right thing for me to do. If you feel that way and I decide for sure not to be a candidate again – well, sorry. If I do get back involved in the political system at some point in the future – well, keep that energy stored up and let’s have a go at it then.
      ~~~~~~~~
      I posted this because I assumed those reading this wouldn't care about what he had to say about the planet and the urgent challenge we all face now. However, this looks to me like he is totally dedicated to what is most important now, and I for one thank him and hope he stays on this course because this planet needs him and us.
    • You mean the "usual" take. The tying everything he says, does, and stands for to an ulterior poltical motive take to appease their own desire to not have to look at a different take. But what else can you expect from a "political" website that is only using global warming and hoping it gets worse in order to push their own agenda.
