The one glaringly significant differance between energy and God is that energy did not create anything, and does not govern our lives. I'd say it is a valid comparison to the deistic god, but not the Abrahamic one. The god of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and many before is not just a vague yet complex essence. It has special powers, and is intelligent. Energy is not sentient. Furthermore, energy does not require belief or "faith." It is evidenced in a variety of ways, and is fact. Finally, and most importantly, we cannot possibly exist in the absence of energy. That statement is not true of what is called God.
