M&S to Charge for Plastic Bags

Marks and Spencer is to introduce a 5p charge for plastic grocery bags in England, the company announced Nov 6th 2007.

    • People in Britain use an average of 300 plastic bags every year. Each bag lasts up to 400 years, spending the vast majority of that time in a landfill site or strewn across the British countryside. M&S has taken a step in the right direction, but there are people working to get a bag tax in Britain signed into legislation. This has been a successful way to reduce the number of plastic bags used in other countries, so why not here?
