The Wall and The River

steev
This pod is about the San Pedro River, the only free-flowing river left in Arizona and the second most biodiverse area in North America after the rainforest in Costa Rica. The Department of Homeland Security is building a new border wall all the way up to the river's banks, without following the environmental regulations that are normally required by law, as part of their continuing project to put more and more barriers along the U.S.- Mexico border.

The piece details the legal remedies that environmental groups have tried so far and a congressional bill that would alleviate, at least somewhat, the problem and remove the incredible power that has been given to the executive branch of the federal government with the recent passing of the Real ID Act.

This pod uses some additional still photos of the wall construction generously provided by Matt Clark from Defenders of Wildlife.

    • i appreciate your pod. i agree with your subjects, this wall doesn't stop people. immigrants come to the US because they have to, that desperate reality won't end with a high metal wall. when the only way a group of people can survive is by illegally entering another country, they'll find a way around such a "barrier."
