Arctic Surface "Superwarming" Without It's Insulating Ice Cap

Image

The Arctic covers about 3-4% of the planet, but helps radiate 80% of the sun's rays... that is until now. And that does not bode well for the climate balance of this planet. So when Al Gore and scientists claim that this is a planetary emergency, they aren't saying it just to hear themselves talk. This is real, and it is serious.

    • We as a nation seem to never learn from our mistakes and we keep repeating the negative damage of history. I hope and pray we wake up and see whats in front of us as a warning to take action and acknowlege the effects of our waste as coming back around to take large bites out of our land resulting in death and destruction. It starts at home being responsible for your own actions or lack thereof

    • The only thing that keeps me hopeful is that I am personally involved in change. I no longer wait for any person or organization to "get it" or make those changes. But I will not stop pushing them either.

    • To be honest with you, no. This is now coming to pass from decades of abuse since the Industrial Revolution, so even if we stopped all CO2 emissions today, it would continue... however, doing so or at least capping it will give our children a future if they see the urgency of this and take on this challenge. It is a moral issue, and even though we can throw up our hands and say it isn't going to end even if we end emissions today, it would not be as catastrophic as it will be if we continue our current patterns of behavior. Believe me, I am very sad about the current state of this world but at the same time I simply cannot throw up my hands and say it is over, because it isn't. "Hope springs eternal in the human breast" is a quote by Alexander Pope that we need to remember everyday now if for nothing else but for our children. It is like watching a loved one slip away from you and knowing there is nothing you can do about it. The pain and frustration of that is sometimes too much to bear... I know of those feelings and of that loss and in the case of this planet slipping away, to know I can do something about it is all I need to know to not have me give up on her.
