Insurance Bureaucrats Overrule Doctors Recommendations! Patient Dies!

We always hear about how terrified some people (a very small, misguided minority) are that universal healthcare would take medical decisions out of doctors hands and put them into the hands of some "bureaucrat in Washington." Um, no. These misinformed people have it exactly backwards. What we have NOW takes the life and death medical care decisions out of doctors hands and places them squarely in the hands of pencil pushing insurance accountants who get PAID MORE for denying operations. The system ninety nine percent of all Americans are demanding we switch to would put and end to that kind of tyranny and place the medical power back in the hands of doctors. You or your child or your parents could very well die simply because CIGNA (or any insurance company) decides it is cheaper if you die. I challenge anyone who allegedly "fears" the tyranny of a single payer universal healthcare system to defend the current scheme we have in place. People are dying right now simply because doctors are being overruled by the accountants at the insurance companies! All universal coverage does is change who pays the hospital bill. There is no (cue scary music) "faceless bureaucrat" in Washington denying coverage or procedures. Just like there is no (cue scary music again) "faceless bureacucrat" in Washington ordering the police dept not to investigate your mugging or carjacking because its "too expensive." Nor is there a "faceless bureaucrat" in Washington ordering the fire department to let your house burn down because its cheaper. It's a Conservative myth. A myth that is getting people (like the victim in this news article) killed.

    • Try thinking of the Medical profession as a organism larger and older than hospitals. Think about prescriptions drugs vs natural cures. Think about accupuncture or chiropracty vs surgery or more prescriptions drugs. It's a business and the money is not always in cures. We are trapped in a system that is money driven. Inexpensive preventative care has been sidelined. I can not see this "changing" anytime before a senators secretary is denied life saving care. I have seen patients unable to visit a doctor to get a simple antibiotic have to wait until they get full blown pneumonia and then present to the ER. Hmmm ampicillin or prolonged Intensive care unit stay, which costs more?? The system is broken.

    • CIGNA, denied an MRI three times that would have shown my enlarged thyroid. When it was finally visible I no longer had insurance. They saved a lot of money.
