Drought. Some may say it is caused by climate change and the other 5 people may insist it's a natural cycle. The cause of the droughts doesn't matter. Helping people survive the drought conditions does matter. As for America, are we prepared for a lengthy drought? I don't think so. Housing growth is still exploding in the driest deserts of the American southwest and most water restriction/conservation measures are still voluntary. This all strikes me as odd. Okay, so the politicans refuse to curb growth in the water poor regions of Arizona, Texas and Nevada. Okay! But at least put major controls on the new housing built there. For example: why not make it a legal requirement that all new houses (and businesses) must have rainwater collection/purification tanks installed? These simple devices collect the rainwater from the roof, discharge the first 2 mins of water collected (as it is the dirtiest) and purifies the rest making it as cleana nd safe as tap water. A typical tank collecting rain during the wet season in Arizona could store enough water to last that household 3 months! This simple measure could ease the strain in the Colorado River immeasurably freeing up critical water resources for farmers. And yet we refuse to take these common sense steps now when it would be easiest to do so. I don't remember who said this but the quote seem applicable: Americans can be counted on to do the right thing, after they have exhausted all other options.

Difficult to watch without feeling helpless. I wonder sometimes as our weather changes if there but for the grace of God go us.

Kenya's Drought Vicitms. Once again this begs the question: Where is the international aid really going? It is not just a suspected corrupt election that has set off the current riots there in my view. People are hungry, thirsty, poor, and tired of suffering.
