"We've never before detected such a high deforestation rate at this time of year." In the last five months of 2007, 3,235 sq km (1,250 sq miles) of the Amazon rain forest were lost. The Brazilian government has announced that the rate of deforestation is on a steep incline. This comes just months after they were celebrating the success in reducing deforestation.

One really inspirational case, being brought to court by Pablo Farjardo, is calling Chevron to clean up 16 billion dollars worth of toxic legacy in Ecuador. Also here's a really great link, to a new animation by Mark Fiore, publicizing Chevron's hypocrisy and devastation.
