Cooking the Planet: Are biomass stoves in the developing world affecting climate change?

jeremy_roth
A look into rural India to see how cooking over open fires and traditional stoves is a danger to the health of the cooks, their families, and the planet. A major contributor to global warming, smoke from cook fires is cooking the earth. See for yourself.

    • I work for Forrest Paint Co. in Eugene Oregon and I sell our Stove Bright high temp paint there for stoves, bbqs, fireplaces, etc. I really would like to link up with the appropriate people in these projects because we have some very environmentally friendly products that could be used in these areas of need. alcohol based fire starters, temperature resistant paint, etc.

Any help passing my information along to the appropriate people would be greatly appreciated.

      Keep up the good work!

    • Dog,
Recognize the voice in the Vita stove video? I produced that a few years ago for Aprovecho Research Center. I never knew it was posted there.

Here are a few other vids on improved cook stoves.

    • This is a great video explaining the micro level practices impacting the global climate. Each individual can be part of mitigation and make a better planet for living.

    • I don't place much value on opinion, dharmadog. Do some research and give me facts. 3.5 billion people cook over open fires every day. I am sure that the smoke from natural fires, cane fields, oil & tire fires, volcanoes, etc. affect our atmosphere.
What is the total global warming potential of all of these fires? Have you compared that amount with the global warming potential of the emissions from those 3.5 billion cooking fires??

    • Dont get me wrong this is a great an informative video pod. Very well done. But your kidding if this is the problem surrounding global warming. Theres more smoke from Natural Fires out of control, Farmers continuing to burn cropfields such as sugar cane in Hawaii and not to mention all the clear cuts being burned. What about Oil Fires, Tire Fires, Volcanic activity. Yes there are health related problems from these people burning fires in there homes. But to say this is even making a dent in the creation of Global Warming is way off the mark in my view.
