This guy is obviously a one off, but he goes to show that it is totally possible to get these things done. Instead of believing the hype that we need to stay on fossil and other traditional energy sources, open your mind to the possibility of being self-sufficient. If an ordinary person can do this on his own, then there's not a chance on gods green earth that this can't be done on a large scale.

Clearly very impressive, and I don't wish to in any way detract from the idea of self-sufficiency...
But given the amount of kit he has had to purchase and install - and which has therefore contributed to they guy's carbon output in its manufacture - is it ACTUALLY greener than drawing electricity from the grid?
And even if it is greener today, would grid-delivered green electricity not be better in the long run?
Illuminating responses welcome...

If I knew how to do this, I would do so as well. Maybe this guy should start a business advising people how to go completely off-grid? I'd pay him to show me how.

Wow, what a sweet-natured guy. It gives me a little warm glow to think somebody would just get up and actually do something about their effects on global pollution - and do it well.
Also, it's worth checking out this pod from Mr Sam Delaney, journalist extraordinaire, on keeping a healthy ethics/hedonism balance in your everyday life.
