    • yes. i have heard that. It is a poor argument. For many reasons. Most of them posted to other threads on Nuclear energy on this website. If I get a moment today I will see if I can list them here. Hopefully someone will beat me to it.

    • I've heard it said by academics that Nuclear may be the only way we can keep up with energy needs while cutting out all the carbon emissions, even though it is admittedly not something we want to be doing forever. As a temporary solution, however, until we can develop the technology to effectively harness wind and solar, isn't it better than the alternative, i.e. the imminent disappearance of the ice caps?

    • Go to IEER website for free download Carbon Free/ Nuclear Free US energy policy. This is what has to happen for a sustainable future AND IS POSSIBLE with the correct political leadership. Obama is a patsy for the nuclear industry. He is a nuclear proliferator (voted to send GE nukes to India) and wants new nuclear power plants. He may be for change but it is in the wrong direction. This has to be done without nuclear power. EDUCATE YOURSELVES. The nuclear industry is pulling the wool over the young people's heads to continue their polluting, cancer causing industry. Go to MREA website for Helen Caldicott's DVD ($10.00) which explains what a nuke plant is and how it operates. She also says she wants AL GORE for president. I wish Ralph Nader and AL Gore would team up on a ticket to save the planet. They need to put differences aside and RUN. Spread the word please. NIRS, NEIS, nukefree.org, IEER, nuclear policy.org. Thank you for reading.

    • I'm going to watch it as well, and am glad to see it covered. And I agree, we need carbon caps and a price put on carbon today if we want to at least prolong getting to that sixth degree. But it will take more than that and we need to get started with solutions now as well. The talking and debating stage is over as far as I am concerned. It is now time for action.

    • thanks for that link! our leaders need to understand the danger we're in if we dont take action now.

We cant wait for Bush to leave. He's a dead weight! We gotta stop the coal-firing power plants NOW!

It may already be too late, but since we dont know yet, there's no reason to panic. Just put on your serious face and forge a faith in salvation. Folks, it's time to hit the ground running.
