Interestingly:
"Have the risks been overstated?
Yes. A recent report, printed in several newspapers last month, suggested that 500 people a week were being admitted to hospital for treatment for the effects of cannabis – a 50 per cent increase since the drug was downgraded to Class C in 2004. The figure was repeated in reports this week. Drugscope said the figure, quoted by the Public Health minister Dawn Primarolo, was actually related to the number of people consulting community drug treatment services for help or advice where "treatment" may amount to no more than an informal chat. The actual figure for hospital admissions was 14 per week in 2006-07 – and that was lower than the year before."
Where do you stand?

bravo Prodius. I agree, personally I don't see the 'killing' that it does, oh wait.. that's right. It doesn't kill, you can't overdose on weed, you might hallucinate at the max. but that's a long way there. There's more bad than good.
While alcohol is considered a downer (or depressant) in the classification of drugs, marijuana is an all rounder. It changes perception not actions.
I don't think anyone who has never tried the drug, should give an educated assumption of it. Before then you have no idea what you're talking about. Go ahead and try it a few times, then get back to me on how 'bad' and 'harmful' it really is. - 4 years ago

i like the simplification, however I do believe there are encouragable ways to reduce the risks.
1) looking both ways before crossing the street
2) ingesting pot in ways other than smoking it
3) drinking alcohol VERY moderately. - 4 years ago

There are thousands of thing that could kill you. I could cross the street and get hit by a Meteor today. Then it wouldn't matter how much Mary Jane I smoked. I would be dead. So you should just enjoy life. And if that consists of smoking the peace pipe then so be it.

Also known as 'blow'? Last time I checked, it wasn't pot anyone was referring to when using the term 'blow'...

You are correct Ryan B.
we all know that alcohol is the more dangerous of the two, causing all sorts of societal problems. it's ridiculous and kinda hilarious and very sad all at the same time.We are living in the shitty backwards dimension. in an alternate dimension, truth prevails.

Pot has been systematically demonized by alcohol and tobacco interests. They'll kill their competition any way they can and it has nothing to do with health or safety.

The medical marijuana is Calfornia's canbias clubs is pretty similar to the "super-skunk" in Amsterdam. All you need is a prescription for what ever ales you and you're in.

Does anyone know if "super-skunk" is available in the US? Specifically California? Um, specifically San Francisco?
it's for research.

jasper, i can guarantee you that 90% of the discoveries made by humanity in the last 2000 years have been from the effects of mind altering substances. Marijuana does not kill anything, not even brain cells. The only thing it does to brain cells is put them to sleep for a while, however there is extremely heightened levels of creativity. there is evidence of increased blood vessel dilation, which is why it is used to treat glaucoma. Also its has been proven to help with nausea associated with chemotherapy as well as helping people with eating disorders by increasing appetite.
I know plenty of people who smoke every day, myself included who lead perfectly productive and successful lives. All this Reefer Madness misrepresentation needs to be cleared up.
Try looking at alcohol when you want to talk about substances that kill. Alcohol has been proven to kill brain cells, gradually destroys your liver and causes more car accident deaths than any other automobile related deaths.
The cannabis plant has one of the longest naturally occurring fibers in the world making it ideal for the production of everything from silk to denim to burlap out of the stalks. The seeds are the only known plant to contain all essential Omega-3s. The oil that can be made from the seeds have the potential for ethanol.
The medical benefits of smoking it have already been proven and are helping thousands of people in the medicinal marijuana countries and regions of the world.
And the best thing of all, Cannabis plants do NOT deplete the soil, unlike corn, which we use for 90% of the uses we could be using cannabis for.
So please do some research on what you hate before coming and telling people to "Choose Life" or to "Stay on the path of Righteousness."
or even better, try smoking it.

Weed is the gate way to death and then soforth, as an experinous of the so call moderate' it is down right the gudder way of being a up right humanous; the reason for that is the fact( it kills) whatever it, or should I say whomever it embrasses. After the effects kick in then and only then do we start to repent on all the loses of space in mind body and sweet spirit (corrupts the will to pro-"Be'!P/s first nation, lone wolf.sf/cali.

hmmm, there could be cause for some hesitancy... I smoke plenty of pot but it's Californian pot (I assume). It's probably nothing like the enhanced Dutch-made "super-skunk"
what the ......
"It is the generic name given to potent strains of the cannabis plant containing the highest levels of the psychoactive ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The original skunk, a cross between the fast-growing Indica and the potent Sativa strains, is believed to have originated in the US and was so called because of its pungent smell. Dutch growers have since refined and cross-bred the plants to produce a number of strains including super-skunk, Early Girl, Northern Lights and Jack Herer. They are normally grown indoors under lights, or in a greenhouse. The more intensive the cultivation, the higher the THC content."

I think people are overreacting to it. The real issue here is the future of marijuana laws in Britain due to increased reports. What you have to ask yourselves though is
Are these reports now coming to light because the powers at be want to change the laws?
so suddenly all of these new studies (funding from where?) are showing up with evidence to support themIf the laws are changed will the use of marijuana slow down drastically enough to justify enforcing the law?
and finally,
Why are we even talking about smoking weed when there are countless other uses for it which could solve many of the worlds resource problems?

I honestly don't see the point in smoking weed. It's not productive in my opinion to sit around smoking it. I'd rather be out working, making money, most anything than smoking. That's my choice and it's other's choices to smoke it as well. I think that moderation is fine, as long as it doesn't keep you from being a productive member of society.

smoking is of no harm to anyone.. as long as it's not interfering with work, school, or relationships... like seriously man... if you're not out there pressuring little kids to do it... and you're not imposing on other peoples rights... wheres the harm... i mean yeah people will argue that it's bad for your health... but drinking can be too... cigarettes... excersizing... to much of anything can be harmful... it's all in moderation... it's not all that difficult to to see that.

Moderation is the key. Alcohol is a more destructive drug, yet because it's legal people think it's fine to drink themselves into next week. People work for 5 days a week, and then exist in a debauched blur for two days in the name of legality.
The debate has gone on too long - we could have the danger debate about alcohol or even nicotine. The potential dangers of all social drugs needs to be laid out in a clear form for people to see and understand. Education is key - since there is no education which will suppress mankinds desire to alter consciousness, it seems an ingrained and uniquely human trait.
Some would say that if people want to get high then that's up to them. Another significant argument is that there needs to be non partisan, non biased scientifically verified information on ALL drugs to be made available. Including alcohol.
