According to CNN insiders that know Gore's people, he does not plan to endorse either Democratic candidate.

    • no more old folks in office (over 60)...they all want the world to be the way it used to be...if we don't keep electing people who are socially progressive but financially frugal (the party that doesn't exist,) we deserve all the horrors we get from the liars that dare to call themselves republicans. Al has stepped forward to support the people, since this is no longer being done by our government. See, if only we could elect Mr Nader to the presidency, have Al running the EPA, having the most qualified people for the most important jobs would relieve the burdens that corporate America has dumped upon our citizenry, we could begin to see the truth. Clean out DC, let some new folks in, people with a love of the truth, motivated by the search for truth, not the people who have given up their search, and have settled for replacing truth with belief without proof. Government can only be effective if the truth is the motivator behind the jurisdiction of its people. When belief replaces this truth, people suffer, and the liar is respected as the savior. Remember to not choose is also used to rebel against the system that asks you to, not always the out of the lazy or afraid imho!

    • OH, no, I don't ever want to see Mr. Gore on a ticket ever again playing second string to anyone. Matter of fact, in both 1992 and 1996 the ticket should have been Gore/Clinton, but again, the status quo had to be first. This system is so toxic as we are seeing with this American Idol campaign (who really who loves this man would want to see him lower himself down to the backbiting going on now?) with the cheesey videos, media hacks, soundbites, and speeches meant to mesmerize to keep people from actually looking up peoples' records to be able to discuss issues, that I am grateful to him for not getting down in the muck.At least we have one real statesman in this country who wishes to maintain some dignity regarding this process. And again, unless we get up to change this system (and that means getting corporate money out which both Obama and Clinton take) men and women like Al Gore will never see the light of day in the White House. It isn't about him getting on a ticket, it is about US doing something to make it possible for those who have the ability and qualifications. But I fear on the whole that the American people are just not up to doing it... so don't wonder why we have the ones we do in it.

    • Marilynn_Murray Do you mean between Obama and Clinton? I would have to say by far, Obama. Barack Obama says what he means and has consistantly sang the same tune all along. If he is elected, I think that it is safe to say we know what to expect. That said I disagree with his platform and I am going to vote for John McCain.

    • Is "EARTH IN THE BALANCE" Where he talks about this sort of stuff?

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system." -Al Gore

"In August 1985, 19 record companies agreed to put "Parental Guidance: Explicit Lyrics" labels on albums to warn of explicit lyrical content. However, before the labels could be put into place, the Senate agreed to hold a hearing on so-called "porn rock". This began on 19 September 1985, when representatives from the PMRC, three musicians, and Senators Paula Hawkins and Al Gore testified before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on "the subject of the content of certain sound recordings and suggestions that recording packages be labeled to provide a warning to prospective purchasers of sexually explicit or other potentially offensive content."

    • I think you should all read EARTH IN THE BALANCE if you want to even pretend to know the deep integrity and wisdom of Al Gore. (especially you, mjsmith... that baby on your shoulder will thank you later)

And, you would do quite well to adopt the kind of love and compassion for the Earth and ecosystem that Gore professes, if for no other reason than because the meaning of your existence depends on it, whether you know so or not.

    • gore thinks he's captain planet now.
thats what politicians do---they support candidates if they themselves arent in the running.
get off your high horse, mr. gore and give back to the party who made you the politician you once were.

    • Why should he endorse against his own principles just to satisfy a bunch of political junkies and media hounds? He has transcended all of this and is now a respected world environmental leader and statesman. And he has already given the greatest endorsement one can give: he endorsed this planet and is working damn hard for her. And I would say rather than getting all caught up in the political rhetoric of endorsements, more people should be doing the same right now.

    • mjsmith11, Bill Clinton didn't campaign for Al Gore because Gore chose not to be associated with Clinton because Clinton is sleazy. The Democratic party would turn cartwheels if Gore was to step forward and agree to be the candidate. He has it all experience, integrity, intelligence, and good looks. BTW He won the election.

    • stephenthomson , I do not agree with you. I do not think very many people would agree wit hyou either. I am not sure even Al Gore would agree with you. I think the Democrat party has left him behind. Bill Clinton did not even raise money or campaign for his Presidential candidacy. Instead Bill Clinton went out raising money for his own Library and his wife's senate race. If the Democrat party stood by him he would have possibly had a chance to win the election in 2000. He was forced to only campaign in 9 states. Al Gore is a very accomplished person indeed, and I am not trying to demean his many successful accomplishments. The choosing process for President of The United States is far from a silly little contest. It is a very important, historic, globally impacting contest. Al Gore, by not endorsing Clinton or Obama is supporting John McCain.

    • I dont get it, how you do you think Gore's refusal to play this silly game gives support to one side over another?

Gore is no longer a Democrat, and certainly not a Republican. He's what I would call a Transcendental Leader, of spiritual and moral clout unequaled by any existing politician. In short, a wise wise man.

    • whichever.

...sooooo.you'd think, if someone is concerned and informed enough to care about who becomes president....that person would voice their support for said candidate.

presumably, Mr. VP is staunchly opposed to the DNC policies regarding superdelegates....if i recall...back when he ran for prez, his campaign manager spoke out pretty strongly against superdeleg influence over the party's nominee.

i tink the whole idea of a suprdelegat systm is for primaries..like this one which are almost too close to call....to act as the tie-breakers...the best, smartest, most responsible party members...tell all the dumb ppl who to vote for and what not.

........unfortunately, this makes a tough choice for the most powerful and well connected members of the DNC. they have to weigh their desire to help the best person for the job get elected...against preserving the democratic process / power of electorate.an all that BS

....I propose Americans go back to doing all important political business in smoke filled back rooms....over single malt whiskey...no girls allowed..ya kno, the good ol' days.

    • Al Gore has stated time and again that he has fallen out of love with politics. Who could blame him? I am hoping that the next president not only listens to Al, but puts his ideas into action. We have to act soon on the climate crisis.
Marilyn and Jan - I also noticed the pic! :) I believe I'll file it under "WOW"!

    • And another thing to consider: Mr. Gore has rightfully stated that the political process is toxic, so why would he endorse it? This is the most expensive presidential campaign in history and that speaks to me in regards to reason being supplanted to once again pay more attention to media hype. In this country you shouldn't have to raise 50 million dollars and get Oprah endorsements to be considered worthy of being president. So apart from the fact that neither Obama or Clinton or for that McCain have climate change plans yet that even come close to adressing the climate crisis as it must be now, I think the overall political atmosphere has been a turn off to Mr. Gore as based on his book The Assault On Reason. And I have to say I agree with him wholeheartedly on that. Supporting millionaires is not what I consider "grassroots," and is hypocritical if you believe this system needs real change.

    • given the circumstances, its best that he not endorse. This thing could get a little messy/and or nasty after the primaries if their is no clear cut winner. Al Gore could help play a broker between the two campaigns. If he endorses it would be impossible for him to be/or play that role.

    • yes Marilynn... the video I did, "Al Gore Rhythm" was started months ago when there was still a chance he would run. Unfortunately, i'm a slow editor and I deliberate over the smallest of details. I had wanted to publish the video in support of his running, but by the time i finished it was too late anyway.

    • MM, yes, apparently I have been dubbed Miss Priss... I'd prefer Miss Princess, but whatever! I didn't realize that Kucinich was calling that bill his own, as far as I knew, that was a bill presented by Conyers. But it's all the same to me, because that's DEFINITLY my preferred solution. I do feel that Obama's method is second best, but still, I prefer not to think of it as crappy. While it's not universal HC, It will at least force insurance companies to re-think the way they approach pre-existing conditions, as well as drive the price of insurance premiums down. While it's NOT the total solution that hr 676 is, it is a major step in the right direction. I would do ANYTHING I could to see hr 676 make it through...but if all else fails, Obama's plan is going to make a difference, albeit a much smaller one. In the very least, it could mean that some lives are saved, because there will be people who are able to have one more option when their insurance company says NO.

    • Jan, Did you see the other new one? He is downright pretty in it. Angelina (AKA Miss Priss) I believe HR 676 is Kucinich's bill? That is what we want. Bush has frozen the amount paid to Medicare in an attempt to irritate the providers and insure we won't have their support for expanded Medicare the weasel. Maybe we can organize and join up with the doctors that want it. Obama's idea for health care sucks.

    • MM, my faith in Obama is growing by leaps and bounds. I really think he's not only the best choice, but maybe the best man for the job. What do you think of Conyers' medical bill hr676? If we can't get "universal" health care, Obama's plan is a good second place, don't you think?

    • Remember the excitement a couple of weeks ago before John Edwards suspended his campaign? I'm sad that we don't feel that about the ones we have left. I hope Obama turns out to be better than I think. I don't blame Gore for not endorsing either one. If I were him I wouldn't either. I'm thinking we should get behind Dennis Kucinich's health care bill before they get a chance to foist off Obama's crappy health care proposal. How to start Spoon? Maybe we could get some enthusiasm going about that. BTW Kucinich needs money to hold onto his house seat. Big money is trying to unseat him.

    • Uh huh...that's how many of us ended up here are Current. I was waiting to hear if he was planning on endorsing anyone, and I'm glad to hear that he's not. If he's not going to run, then he might as well transcend all this BS. Wise move. ST is prob right, in that a proven incumbent with cred will have a better chance of getting his support, especially because then, he's less likely of getting egg on his face...

    • Endorsed by Gore or not, the next president would do well to listen to him with VERY CLOSE ATTENTION.

Gore may endorse an incumbent president if he proves to be doing the right thing in his first term.
