Bottled water is a £2 billion drain on Britain's pockets

Britain's about to get the wake-up call about the massive waste and environmental threat that is the bottled water industry. Tonight's BBC Panorama will claim that "Britons are wasting £2 billion a year on bottled water when the kitchen tap provides a safe alternative that tastes just as good."

The bottled water controversy has been going on for some time in the US. Perhaps with more exposure to this issue in more countries, the industry will be exposed and people will turn to alternatives. Where do you stand?

    • More precise information about tap water characteristics would help a lot. Some water can be good for healthy people, but less good for others suffering particular diseases (e.g. kidney problems). If we could have a detailed and constantly updated information, explaining in which cases is recommended drinking tap water and when is not, than the consuming of bottled water could be kept at the minimum necessary.

    • here in colorado, the laws governing tap water are more strict than bottled water. that combined with cost keeps me toting around my own personal jug wherever i go...
all those plastic bottles are so wasteful as well
