Bodybuilding's 30 biggest lies

1 — You can get as big as a pro bodybuilder without taking steroids; it just takes longer.

Despite what many of the magazines say, all professional bodybuilders use either steroids or steroids in combination with other growth-enhancing drugs. Without manipulating hormones, it just isn’t possible to get that degree of muscularity, the paper-thin skin, and the continuing ability to pack on mass, despite sometimes having poor workout habits and relative ignorance of the principles involved that many pro bodybuilders have. Many supplement distributors, in order to sell their products, would have you believe otherwise.

Still, that’s no reason to give up. By using state-of-the-art training principles, consuming a nutrient-rich diet, and by getting proper amounts of rest, almost every person can make incredible changes in his or her physique. The competitive bodybuilder circuit may not be in your future, but building the kind of physique that gains you respect is certainly achievable, as are self-respect and robust health.

    • No. I've worked out 4 times a week for 5 years and I have several friends who're into competing. One won best in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Most look down on drugs. They're widely considered to be used by pussies.

    • First of all...that picture is fake. Now that we have that out of the way, despite what most people would have you believe, the top bodybuilders are freaks of natureto begin with...that's right, FREAKS! Go to you're local gym, see the biggest, most ripped dude there, call him/her a freak, and they will smile out of joy. Most of mainstream culture really needs to educate themselves more on performance enhancing drugs before they make judgment...why? Not because I feel it's "right" or "fair"...but because most people think that just because you inject yourself with something, that all of a sudden you are a star athlete willing to leap tall buildings and outrun speeding bullets...it's just not true. Yes, most bodybuilders are taking performance enhancement drugs, as are a lot of pro athletes (it's not just the MLB)....but on top of that...they are already freaks of nature who have working out down to a science...from dosages, to workouts, to nutrition...

So moral of the story...go call your local bodybuilder a freak, make someone's day.

    • It can't be real, it certainly looks like it's a combination of things, the hands are photos photoshopped in, the body is totally created maybe from a photoshop distorted picture, and so forth.

    • That is the grossest thing I've ever seen! That is so not natural. He looks like a comic book character. I don't know why someone would do that to themselves.
