Matt,
Me and my girlfriend Cristina when to go visit John and his bees and what an experience. My girlfriend is working on a project for school and she wanted to see the bees in person. John is a very cool down to earth friendly guy. At first I was scared but after spend time with john and his bees I have mad respect for bees now.

Great pod. Thanks for sharing.
Each person has their unique way.
Thanks for sharing this man's story
and teaching us about beekeeping.
Anyone, anywhere can contribute to the
web of life.
Our second son started a grassroots
farm coop in his diverse neighborhood
when he studied photography at UNM.
Neighbors have small kitchen/victory
gardens in their small yards in the middle of
the city and share harvests, manure and gardening knowledge. His next door
neighbor even has chickens and rabbits.
Everyone can make a difference.
One Earth. Think About It/Act Like It.Honor the bees and call them home.

This is fantastic. what is also fantastic, is that tie Mr. Rolston.
however, I would be interested to know if any bee keepers have found solutions to avoid killing the bees? - 4 years ago

Memories. My dad had a hive of bees. This piece was good and solid. I like the interview and his 'play on words'... was that intentional?
Good piece.
I remember wearing the bee gear, and somehow a bee got under my mask. Memories.
peace,

I wasn't even going to respond to this. With all due respect, it was just yet another nonvegan doing something grossly immoral, without even realizing it. Then, the guy explicitly said that he didn't have to consider them, because they're just animals.
That was just so...there isn't a word for it. Human beings ARE just animals. We're a part of the great ape family. We're just really smart, by our definition.
You know why he felt sypathetic in the beginning? Because he knew intuitively that they deserved moral consideration.
Then, like a typical human, he rationalized his crimes, by taking animals out of consideration comepletely. Humans do stuff like that all the time. Always using our intellects to get ourselves out of trouble, at least in our own minds.
Scientists have proven time and again that the differences between humans and nonhumans are just quantitative, not qualitative. They are conscious. They can suffer. They can fear. They can love. They can feel affection. They can display affection. Just stop trying to rationalize your crimes and stop commiting them.
No, I'm not antisocial or self hating. I'm a humanitarian. However, I don't suffer from anthropocentrism. When we're wrong, we're wrong.
Safety and Peace, to you all.
Undeniably,

Great pod! Really interesting character. I wanted to hear everything he said and see everything he did. You did a good job of teaching us a whole lot about him through him talking about his hobby. I also liked that you had B-roll over almost all of his commentary. It was not only more interesting to see him tending to his bees than it would have been to see him talking all, but also it made the times he was talking grab your attention. He had an awkward, yet confidence presence on camera. Really good work.

I am so glad this made it to air. There is such a difference from the first cut I saw. He is such a great character and I loved him just talking about his life and his bees. The filming and editing was great as well. Congrats!
