Yasmin Birth Control Pill Suspected in Two Deaths

So far, Dutch authorities have recorded 40 cases of venous thrombosis among women using the Yasmin birth control pill, as well as the deaths of two women aged 24 and 17.

Just like the FDA, the DKMA seems to be satisfied with a few women dying each year from use of oral contraceptives. I wonder how many patients are actually warned of this increased risk?

There were two deaths during clinical and aftermarket trials. Since then there have been two more. I am sure my daughter's death was not linked to Yasmin. I am also sure that Yasmin was the cause. If they didn't make that connection in my daughter's case, they probably didn't make that connection in other cases.

-Some signs of a deep vein thrombosis are:
-Pain in the legs, often below the knees.
      -Swelling in the legs.
      -Discoloration in the legs.
Pain when the toes are pulled upwards.

Only about half of the people with DVT show any sign at all. Of course, as in my daughter's case, when the clot(s) move to the pulmonary artery the result can be death.

    • My daughter died On August 20th, 2006 from a massive pulmonary embolus at Broward General Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Her only medication was Yasmin. She had been healthy, and contrary to hospital charts, she dd not smoke.

To my knowledge, there has been no statistical correlation between heer death and Yasmin, although Yasmin was the major contributor, if not the only cause of the pulmonary embolus, and thus her death.
