    • kuruption, that was the ground breaking ceremony in 1939. all the flags of the world were there and at the time, there was a war going on over in Europe. notice everyone is all smiles in the picture. the rising sun flag is on the other side as well :(

    • Nice job. The graffiti and the "property manager" making a contribution is interesting in it's own right, but really not relevant to (re)building a model city.

I would really like to have known more about the scope and extent of the "green" side of the planned development. There were other areas also touched on without explanation.

Nice job - keep going, you've got a great start.

    • Matt,
      really nice work!
I hear some of the other comments but think there's a place for a different style - and think that your style of slower-paced, even meditative footage is a nice and strongly original approach with it's own rhythm. I hear the comment about the beats, but think here too that this is part of a style and that they fit well here.
My main criticism is that I feel it looses a bit of storytelling focus after the middle between the TI admin (who's profile is well done, I feel) and the graphitti. For the whole piece - thanks for the B-roll - it shames many a broadcast shot even in flash over the net.
      Nice.

    • matt_fisher,

      nice work overall. great access!

I think you could probably make an entire pod on the artwork that'll be destroyed.

After growing up on Angel Island (next door to Treasure) I'll be sad to see it go, but the future looks good.

      peace out!

    • Great look into the future and history of this SF mystery.

Treasure Island has now been resurrected as the home of the west coasts newest music festival, last year was the first and a very pleasant surprise. Modest Mouse with the sun setting over the golden gate is hard to beat.

    • What a great subject. I think this redevelopment project could make a positive contribution to the Bay Area, one with long lasting impact.

It's easy to imagine several more pods growing out of this one, expanding on this topic and the island's current community. They don't even have a grocery store, right?

    • wow, nicely done. your B-roll is silly fantastic. i loved the minimalist score for the first sections, the hip-hop beats bored me, but most viewers will prob be into it.
if you're churning out products this good early in your filmmaking career, you have a great future.
one suggestion - get a good lamp or soft box or even a reflector to light your interviews, so you can control the exposure better. interesting that you exposed for the window and not the subject in the one interview.

    • great start, i think there are alot of ways to tighten this up ...

... the content is fantastic. if you check out 'spoiled heat' (my most recent video) you are looking at images of community (braddock, PA) that is recovering without any real outside support (totally by its own bootstraps).

location in the US counts, it really determines what communities are rehabbed and what communities are abandoned.

    • B-roll is sexy! haha. nice. Interesting stuff. Would be awesome to see it built into something great....But in a way the graffiti and run down look is crazy art looking like a big project and should let artist come in and paint and draw everywhere on the buildings....+++

    • Hey, great job on this pod. I realize how much work you have put into it. It could possibly take up a faster pace, but the subject is a very large undertaking. Great visuals and B roll, perhaps some not so necessary though. Good movement, and character development, perhaps the conflicts could be emphasized more or at a more impacting point in the plot.

    • Matt, this is so much better than your first cut! Love the new interviews, stock footage, etc. Have a few notes on the structure; right now it's still way too long, and think the young guy should be more central. We'll talk...

    • That kind of undertaking must come with a good mixture of excitement and anxiety. This pod's minimalist score captures a vibe that leans toward the latter until the last few minutes. I liked a pod that builds toward it's end.
      Very good work.
