Zyrtec scored 2.3 out of possible 5 on http://www.askapatient.com

Here is just one of the thousands of messages from people like yourself who have been fooled into taking these medications.
Beware!

"In my opinion, this is VERY bad medicine for young children. Like many readers this was the only place that I found to confirm my thoughts about this medicine. The drug companies would loose lots of money if the truth were told. Once I stopped giving my son this stuff he returned to his normal happy self. For a while I thought he was possesed. I feel like a bad parent having given him this stuff for as long as I did. Don't make the same mistake........"

    • Carolyn, The needles are very thin and if you hold with your thumb and index finger against your skin twirling it back and forth it just kind of falls in with no pain. They also sell TENS units on the Internet and it can be done electronically. They sell acupuncture books in most "China Town" areas. They have recipes in them for most things you can treat. It is so easy and effective.

    • I control my allergies with vitamin C, calcium, and magnesium pills. When they were more severe I used acupuncture. I bought a book called acupuncture for Americans years ago. With needles purchased in China Town in SF I treated myself. Never had a problem doing it. It is very effective.

and anyone with access to a computer can go to dr weil's site for free and use his suggestions for illnesses...often simple solutions.
      most of them are preventive.
...and i know it is not for everyone but I am a recent Vegan and I can feel all my health problems straightening out themselves!
My cholesterol was 300 and I am eager to find out what it is down to naturally...without killing myself with these statins the doc's recommend. I find the older people knew what was good for them...gargling and cod liver oil my father in his 90's even did saline washes that dr. weil advises to keep his airways clean.
I googled ellagic acid and yes it is one of those things our bodies naturally need..I didn't know that it existed but my body does and tells me to eat it at the organic salad bar when I visit whole foods!

    • One might simply try to eat more bean's, berries and nuts to get dosages of certain classes of NATURAL chemicals necessary for healthy cells along your digestive tract...

As a start- Google: ellagic acid

    • This made me laugh out loud,
"I would get violent and take it out on my wife, especially when she makes meatloaf. She would get a swift kick to the stomach and I would proceed beating her across the head and throat. I would then turn green and smash through the door."

    • Another random comment from the long list:
"This is a dangerous drug. I am so sick after taking this. I stopped taking it two days ago, and I feel so bad. A few years ago, I took a anti-epileptic drug (a dangerous narcotic) called Lyrica and almost lost my life. The side-effects and withdrawal that I am experiencing from Zyrtec are similar...although not quite as profound. I almost got in several car wrecks over the past few days...I hit my dog (hard) for no reason except this fast, uncontrollable rage that came out of nowhere (I love my dogs and would never hurt them)...I can't quiet my mind...I'm so tired and can't sleep...and I'm just not thinking straight. This is a scary drug. Please be careful. Before taking this, I was doing well in life...healthy, happy... Just be careful."

I have been taking Zyrtec for about 4 years now. Everytime I try to stop taking it or even step down from 10 mg to 5 mg by the 2nd day of 5 mg I feel so sick. Shakey, weak, insomnia, heart races, itchy skin.
I'm so nervous and scared because no doctor seems to believe me a 100%. My MD had me on a step down plan of 10mg one day and 5 mg the next and on the weekend take 5 mg sat and sunday. I got very weak and jittery from doing it. Heart was racing out of control. As soon as I took the 10 Mg it got better.
I'm not sure what to do. I know when I take the Zyrtec I feel myself again. How crazy is this. If anyone knows of a way to get off Zyrtec please share it. Also how long does the weakness and jittery feeling last. Actual withdrawal from Zyrtec. PLEASE PLEASE Help if you can. This really is no joke , I want my life back.
      Thanks.

It sounds like addiction to me. Is there a drug treatment center near you? If so go there for help and advice. If not is there a 2.5 MG Zyrtec? If so get it and take it along with the 5 MG for about a month or six weeks. Then step down to the 5 MG for a month or six weeks. After that step sown to 2.5 for a month or six weeks. Then stop completely. Is there an acupuncturist available. If so use one to help. Addiction is not something you can stop cold turkey or even too fast. It is dangerous and you need to have help. It will take forever for the medical community to realize or admit they have hooked a bunch of people and figure out how to help them. Remember Valium? It was Safe not addictive. I almost died coming off it.
