Brown says message must be sent on cannabis

Gordon Brown announced that the government needs to send a message that cannabis is "unacceptable," increasing speculation he will decide to tighten drug laws.

Brown will decide soon whether to upgrade it to Class B from a Class C, although a decision is not expected this week. Newspapers have predicted that Brown will reclassify the drug even though the council has reportedly advised the government to keep cannabis in Class C.

Going against the council's advice would be controversial, given it plays a large role in setting drug policy. The Conservatives have accused Brown of dithering over the issue.

    • ahh good old authority,eh? has Brown ever tried cannabis? Has his "panel of experts" ever tried it? No, didnt think so. Drawing from quite a wealth of experience, people who smoke weed stick to weed, why? Because ganja dealers are generally smokers themselves and therefore reclassifying it to class B will only bring tokers into contact with stronger substances ie.methamphetamines etc. thereby cementing the misinformed view that cannabis is a gateway drug, by reclassifying it, it will be seen as it anyway. ARGHHHHHH!
why can't we all just get along, pass a spliff around, chill, listen to some good music, have some nice food????The world would be a better place with more tokers!!

    • why is there not more media hype around any of the real drugs? the ones that cause actual harm?
Ganja is being used as a scapegoat for so much, the government, police and many others immediately jump on the band wangon with the rest of the malinformed and assume the worst. a negative and false image is being depicted on all who smoke/eat/drink/vapourise. so many of those who support ganja are peaceful in mind.
so much creation and good can come from it. yet noone is taught about these possibilities.

**all those who support the notion that ganja should be legalised and not only object the ridiculous reclassification** PLEASE look into any campaigns near you; freedom marches/gatherings/sit ins/ lobbying MP's.

peace & love to all sensi family and all believers

    • I agree with merge9; re-classifying the drug to B is not doing anything useful.... I can't imagine many tokers thinking, 'ah, it's class-b now.... so I'm gonna give it up'.

Going against the council is a bit like one parent undermining the other's decision - in the end the child respects neither. (Although generally, the child doesn't care what either parent thinks anyway... so ultimately it doesn't matter)

I'm waiting for a government which treats it's citizens like adults - I'll probably be waiting quite a while.

    • Brown reclassifying Cannabis DESPITE advice from a panel of experts is beyond me. Is he going on a personal 'hunch' or just pandering to the tabloids. He's making a mistake here and if he goes ahead with reclassifying it after such a long and difficult struggle to get it into it's rightful category he is an idiot.

Putting it from C back to B will do absolutely nothing to deter the young from using it and simply waste millions in our tax money from wasted time in our legal system.

    • Brown needs to loosen up and toke a bit to get a clearer perspective of what really matters in government. I promise that once he does, none of this government foolishness will be all that important to him ever again.
