How clean is the air that you're breathing?

Image

The American Lung Association issued its annual report card on air pollution today, ranking cities most affected by three types of pollution: short-term particle pollution, year-round particle pollution and ozone pollution.

Find out how clean the air that you're breathing is, as well as if your city ranks among the highest polluted cities in the U.S.

    • Wow! There's an F here. This is scary, as I see more and more lung issues arise here. And those with a history becoming worse and worse. Medications are being tripled and more, also.

    • Yeah KDrew, I know the story! In 2004 I sent a proposal to the EPA to teach a class on acoustic pollution at Primary education and College level and they dodged it into a "denial." You know "Denial" is this Government favor weapon of killing! They will do it without even blinking their eyes.

Acoustic pollution leads to more fossil fuel pollution. They are both toxic in different ways.

    • A few years ago I tried to get funding for a documentary that discussed among other things air quality in an area that has cancer rates / birth defects way over national averages.

The area was economically depressed and while it still houses one of the worst (tax dollar funded) open air toxic waste sites in North America... I got not a look.

Great work bringing this to everyone's attention.

You would have to be completely ignorant not to see a connection between the quality of the air you breathe and your health. Too bad so many are completely ignorant.

    • Virus are air-borne agents that can live on dust, carpets etc. Bacteria that is different from viruses also can live on dust and carpets. I am not a "germophobic" but I do follow common sense of hygiene. Yes, pollution carries many other chemical by products of rubber and petroleum. It does help to lower your immune system so your body will be more prone to catch and to respond to these viruses and bacterias. The issue here is that pollution does an overtime damage to our bodies and the truth is that little by little they are killing you!

    • Oh no! I live in Orange County, Orlando FL, and we ranked a C! Of the 1 million people that are effected, I can definately say my grandmother is. Over the past two years, her asthma has gotten to the point where she can barely breathe most days. As for myself, I wonder if exposure to pollution has anything to do with the reason I've caught the flu four times in four and a half months.

    • I think and I would act a little different from you! I would send him a letter requesting him to come down from his selfish bubble. There is not such thing as "silence" but it is such a thing as "quietness." Silence is absent of any sound. I think only the astronauts experienced such a thing in space. Now, quietness is absent of "excessive noise." I do not see the point of You giving a "jerk" any sense of seniority. That is not a healthy move Stephen! Send him a letter specifying your complaint. In addition send his Landlord or the Building Manager Office a copy. Easy!

    • I agree with you about 'psychological deafness' - that is why there is meditation, to take you to a silence. but it certainly is not easy if the world around you is screaming.

I also agree that people should be more kind, which is why I do not complain to my neighbor. He lived here for 6 years. I have only lived here 2. I am the guest, so I will put up with it. If it becomes a real problem, i'll move.

    • We should be worry about both as both are bad for your health!
One; (Noise); steals your time and health. The other one; (Air Pollution); steals your health. Just try to sleep or read or doing anything that requires a little more concentration when a "jerk" is making you captive of his noise actions. People become in such a stage of anesthesia that they do not listen to anything any more. That calls psychological deafness. The noise is there but a person has decided in his brain to put it off. Try to call 311 and make a complain about your neighbor from hell! Let us see if the situation changes. Ignorance kills everything! People got to be more kind to each other, there are no excuses.

    • Well, check it here:

      http://current.com/items/88918494_san_francisco_air_quality_satisfactory

They News have been lying to us all along these Years. The point is that San Francisco have a lot of trap spots and lots of acoustic because of the narrow streets and hills. These people at Muni are a bunch of acoustic assassins shooting us with all kind of disturbing noise since 2001. The SFMTA-Muni Commissions at City Hall needs to be arrested and I am not kidding about that. They are all criminals! Wake up people!!!
