Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, said: "Fruit smoothies are becoming increasingly popular and the fruit content can make them seem like a good idea.
"However, they contain very high levels of sugar and acid and so can do a lot of damage to the teeth."
The advice is this: Brush your teeth before you drink your smoothie to help protect them from the acid in the smoothie.
Never brush your teeth straight after drinking one as this can further damage your teeth.

This is really stupid, eating food in general is bad for your teeth, not only that but the last thing I want to do before eating anything is brush my teeth, ruins the flavor of anything else you are about to put in your mouth.
Seeing as I am not going to live forever I dont think I need my teeth to last forever anyway. Plus they are already developing tech that allows the human body to regrow teeth, see link.

We all know the damaging effects of fizzy drinks like coca cola. The fact that smoothie makers are advertising their product based on health benifits is the problem.

What about coca cola then? And all the sodas with sugar in them? Why blame just smoothies? Sheesh.

It's true, you aren't suppose to "graze" on things like fruit juices or anything more acidic than water really, because it eats the protective enamel away from your teeth, but as long as you aren't drinking smoothie after smoothie, and you practice regular hygiene, You're probably ok.
You aren't supposed to brush your teeth directly after eating or drinking anything, because putting ANYTHING in your mouth offsets your mouths natural acidic levels which in turns eats away at enamel, so brushing directly after only helps scrub the enamel away faster! That's why brushing your teeth 2-3 times a day is good, any more than that and you are just doing more damage than good.
