"Religious leaders have contended for millennia that burning incense is good for the soul. Now, biologists have learned that it is good for our brains too. In a new study appearing online in The FASEB Journal (http://www.fasebj.org), an international team of scientists, including researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, describe how burning frankincense (resin from the Boswellia plant) activates poorly understood ion channels in the brain to alleviate anxiety or depression. This suggests that an entirely new class of depression and anxiety drugs might be right under our noses ..."

    • Sara_Airey if you have a church shop or good natural health centre near you...ask if they have an incense called..Sanctuary and also some charcoel to burn it on...when you use it in your home for the first time clean the room first..then light the charcoal let it get hot and then sprinkle some of the incense on..as it smoulders walk around the room dispersing the smoke into the corners finishing in the middle of the room..then you can extuinguish the charcoal and take it out .When you return to the room you will find it cooler and you will begin to feel balanced in yourself...this will grow stronger as you use the incense over a period of time..take care..

    • Even though this is old news, I guess, I have never heard about it. I have anxiety disorder and do not take medication, so anything natural that can produce a calming effect for me is a plus. Great news, thanks ac.

    • I think you have the a missunderstanding here..24 french..incense is a natural collectable compound...not a chemical?And it is not a drug either...

    • So incense will become a drug, sold at exorbitant prices by pharmaceutical companies to recover the enormous expenses they incurred developing it? Lithium is a naturally occurring salt...I think they've recovered their costs already on that one. Seriously, new treatments for depression are good news, esp. in this boom time for depression. But the officialness of scientific blessing can be overrated.

    • this is old news though..if you looked up the 5 different types of incense available you will find that they are used for 5 types of development techniques...they all have a different frequency relaesed when they are burnt..and so create different effects..the monasteries and such have known this for years..Peace to the world..
