260 tons of marijuana uncovered in Afghanistan

Officials say they have uncovered 260 tons of marijuana in a massive drug bust in southern Afghanistan.

The drugs are estimated to be worth more than $400 million and were BURNED on site.

British Capt. Mike Finney, a NATO spokesman, confirms that amount was found and says a trench some 6 feet deep had been dug out by a bulldozer and filled with bags of marijuana. The trench was covered by foliage to camouflage it.

    • LAST NIGHT, TOOK THEM 12HOURS TO ADJUDICATE, I WAS BOUNCED/SUPRESSED BY THE BBC FOR THE FOLLOWING PERTINENT, RESEARCHED COMMENT...

      "Subject:
Can we imagine a Britain where all drugs are legal?

      Posting:
Terrorists, like gangsters, (e.g. Al Capone, after the ill considered Volstead Act) trade drugs, because they are illegal. The only answer is to legalise them, even if it means giving the likes of British American Tobacco a licence to do so.

To focus on Afghanistan, I was shocked, last year, when our buoys bombed (or so they claimed) two hundred and seventy tons of prime hashish. Are they mad? Afghani's hate smack as much as we do, hate that they now have junkies, just like us, but they love their hash.

It was the Brits who introduced opium, like tea, to Northern "India" and fought two wars (which will come back to haunt us again and again in dealings with China) to protect our opium dealers. Now decent, but bonkers Brits are advising them to grow pomegranates, or wheat.

Best advice for our brave buoys in Afghanistan is to stop drinking the hooch and sit down with a local farmer, smoke a pipe, or ten, of his best black, and show your appreciation...

    • This is so annoying, what a waste. Let's just make it legal. You should be able to grow your own and if you want to buy it from a dispensary, it should be taxed. I'm so tired of law makers and police officers who don't know me, and will never know me, telling me what to do with my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like to smoke, it keeps me from losing it, if you know what I mean. I hate this whole off balanced, time wasting, war mongering system. They will never win the war on drugs!!

    • They burned it huh. Bullshit. Drugs are used to rig elections and trade for arms and political favors around the globe. Anybody who really thinks that they burned it is retarded. If the gov burned all the pot and only the pot every year they say they do the entire planet would be high as a kite

    • $780,000 worth of heroin isn't even a pinch of what is distributed throughout the World from Afghanistan.....

Heroin is a derivative of Opium Poppy
Opium Poppies prefer a cool climate over hot weather. In hot areas, they will do well in the mountains or places where it stays cool. They grow best in loose, well drained soil and don't do well in dense soil like clay.

A night time drop in temperature of 20 degrees F or more is much better than a steady temperature through the day and night. This night time temperature drop is most important the first eight weeks of the plants life (during and after germination).

So Afghanistan has ideal terrain and weather conditions for opium growth.

    • I don't really care who did it, the point is if pot were legal far less people would die, be injured, and loose all they have for it. If it was regulated it would be a way better world. I'm not saying this for all drugs because not all drugs are safe, but this one is. Human beings are idiots and that's all there is to it.

    • That's such a waste of good plant. First off the oxygen that the cannabis plant releases, second all those poor people who couldn't get high, third you can you use it for paper, fourth medical, and lastly but certainly not least, why the hell are we over there even worrying about it? We should be worrying about getting it legalized here, not getting it out of other countries. All I can say is that this is pure bullshit.

    • Wow, that definitely created a few more anti-Americans to worry about. I never knew we were in Afghanistan on behalf of the War on Drugs.

We have no legal leg to stand on, and in fact not be involved persecuting Afghani drugs offenders at all.

    • Wow, what a friggin waste. I hope someday we'll once again have at least some sort of legal status for marijuana (as far as recreational use, I know medical use is legal, to an extent). Depressing... that's like seeing a Warsteiner or Budweiser plant go up in flames.

    • So many plant lives wasted. That weed could have saved or helped so many people with their medical conditions. This is definitely sad news.
