    • These are very cool! Innovation in science always has ripple effects in other industries. Various technologies invented or innovated in one area often find application in others. Who knows that from these awesome science "experiments" will come answers for planet-wide problem solutions.

    • i know that im not the sharpest guy in the world but if the big band created enough energy to create the universe what good will come of recreating somthing that powerful here on earth, when you have no idea what will happen

    • When are they going to fire up the LHC?
      I want them to get it over with because there are several possibilities including:
      Nothing happens

      LHC creates micro-black holes, which then evaporate, proving the existence of Hawking Radiation

      LHC creates micro black holes, and Hawking Radiation is disproved when they don't go away and we're all screwed.

    • These are amazing. I think these science expierments don't get enough publicity. This is the sort of thing that should be news. Not celebrity baby bump watch.

    • The space elevator is the weirdest idea I've heard in a long time...

      I just can't get my head around how it will work. Being powered by laser beams sounds cool though, if not a little Dr Evil.

      You should read "Friday" by Robert Anson Heinlein. He calls it the "bean stalk" and in his future history book of earth he describes a time when there are several in operation and servicing geostationary platforms with further transports to luxurious space hotels, cities, enclaves, trips to the cities on the Moon and Mars.

      It is inevitable that everything men have conceived of in science fiction will someday become a reality due to the power of human innovation.
