The changes included a plant-based diet (predominant fruits, vegetables, legumes, soy products, and whole grains low in refined carbohydrates), moderate exercise (walking 30 minutes per day), stress management techniques (yoga-based stretching, breathing techniques, meditation, and guided imagery for one hour per day), and participating in a weekly one-hour support group.

That the environment interacts more with genes than any one previously have thought? Or did you not read the article?

Well, recently there was a post which said that meditation enlarges your brain,
then another one that homosexuals and lesbians had different size brains so it it is a proof that people are born gays
now this post says that we can change our genes based on our lifestyle.
Hm...Hmmmm.
Food for thought

This is good news! Solid proof that genes do not determine one's destiny. The environment affects what genes get switched on in the body and what gets turned off. It's been proven in worms and lab rats. Why not humans?

If people stop gorging on the "Western Diet", then they can avoid getting (and dying from) the "Western Diseases".
An interesting book on this topic that I just finished reading is "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan.

This is an interesting topic, as we all crave nitriments to feed our body, but suffer the same delemas of people 100 years ago. Yes we will live longer if we take better care of our (inside Bodies) so vitamins are so important. I recommend a liquid vitamin called passion4life, which can be found on passion4life.com. Feed the body and thrive. Thank you

What about the moderate exercise (walking 30 minutes per day), stress management techniques (yoga-based stretching, breathing techniques, meditation, and guided magery for one hour per day), and participating in a weekly one-hour support group, bit? I don't think it's an optional menu, rather a change of life style and perceptions.

Anyone looking for a healthy alternative to Coffee should check out Yerba Mate. This is a popular drink in Argentina, Brazil, and many other South American countries.
It's rich in vitamins and nutrients and is a much cleaner energy than coffee. you can buy it online

You know I was just thinking of posting something on the very same subject. Mate knocks coffee into a hat for a sustained, non anxiety producing stimulant. If you're in London you can pick the stuff up on Old Compton Street, in the gourmet coffee shop funnily enough. On the same tip you might wanna try Yanno.

Just had my second cup, had to take my niece to the Airport to catch a flight at 5am ugghhh
I hate getting up this early, I wanted to stay in bed and dream lucidly. Well I am living proof that what this information says is true. I have had HIV now for almost 30 years and I almost died in 1996. Since then I have completely turned everything around and I am a vital and healthy person, with the exception of my side effects form medications.
It is truly amazing what can happen and in such a short time. I am so grateful to have been shown the way to better health through diet. Now if I could just cut out the last little bit of refined sugar I still consume by way of morning coffee. I tried the agave thing, but it is much more expensive than sugar. I love it, but I am also trying to save money too. It's a struggle.

You're an inspiration Jubal, except in your sugar dependancy but I think I'll let that one slide.

I second that dearmat. You are an inspiration jubal. And I share your love for sugar. My cups of coffee are so full, the spoon could stand up straight. 8-) Add a splash of Milk, sorry not silk, and I'm awake and ready to go!

Hi, Jubal. Use evaporated cane juice(Succanot) It's the purest form of sugar from the sugar cane. It is brown in color and granular but very light. It is not altered or processed in any way. The price is between agave and white refined sugar. Found at any health food store or Co-Op.

This is encouraging since cancer runs rampant throughout my family. I am doing my best to fight the history with a good diet of fruit and veggies.
Just wish I could give up my coffee. Speaking of which.. Fresh pot is ready. ;-)

hi, I have a suggestion....research panax ginseng. the wife and I have been using it over 35yrs now. we are vegan/vegetarian. i would say that this root is the best because it is adaptogenic. cancer and heart disease runs in our families. both of us have been sick maybe 6 times combined since using it...of course exercise is a MUST! Western Medicine is really not that good...just arrogant. Eastern medicine treats the entire body, not just the symptoms. My wife is an RN.

Thanks for the information! I will look into that for sure.
Having grown up in S.E. Asia, I am very aware of the power of Eastern medicines and philosophy. Coincidentally, our family was healthy until we moved to the states. Both my parents passed away within 11 years of moving here.
I need to exercise more for sure. I work from home, and most of the time I am laying in my Tempur-Pedic on the computer. Though with stretching and meditation, I feel pretty good right now.
I've been listening to Dr. Sebi's teachings lately. He has an interesting view of disease, diet, and genetics.
