Interesting piece on the potential of salicornia to take advantage of the rising sea levels AND create biofuels in the process.
By diverting ocean water into arid desert land, a scientist hopes to grow the salicornia plant (a halophyte which thrives on salt), and then use to create biofuel.
Whilst sounding too good to be true, the main objections seem to be on potential ramifications on the existing ecosystem.
definitely one to watch with interest.
