Al Gore to Lay Out Unprecedented Challenge on Energy and Climate

After hearing Al Gore's 10 year clean energy challenge, I've gotten my family to invest in the Powershares WilderHill Clean Energy Portfolio, ticker symbol "PBW". Meanwhile the Russians, Chinese, Indians, Koreans, Japanese and just about everyone else we compete with economically will continue to use their resources and provide their populations with the cheapest energy that they possibly can. We, on the other hand . . . we'll be slitting our own throats. This is pure genius.

The speech is ended, and again I am crying. I can't help thinking what we missed out on eight years ago, but oh how grateful I am that he is still here to guide us into the future. Will this political system actually be able to accomodate this bold plan? Well, if WE have any say, it will be done.

Mr .Gore has just announced a challenge that the US get 100% of its electricity from renewable energies within ten years. Thank you, Mr. Gore... That is what we must do. I truly believe he has scientific information that tells us that iunless we do this the Earth will not be able to recover from the damage we are doing to it. I am waiitng to hear if he discusses clean coal and deforestation.

It is truly a shame this isn't being covered by Current.

Yes, I also read his ten year plan calls for "clean coal" technology. Can't agree with that, but do agree with the rest. I simply don't understand how people who know the costs of burning coal can be for something that is not clean at all. I hope he gives more information about CCS... maybe there is something about it I don't know about? Seems to me it is only another scheme to allow coal companies to continue blowing up mountains and polluting the environment. Disappointed in that.

victimofcoal: I wish Current would broadcast it here. I am looking to see if C-Span is covering it. And will this story make it to Current? Obviously not. Funny too, because with over 100 views, pretty good amount of comments and a favorability rating of almost 90% it is nowhere to be seen. Funny how those algorhythms work.

Republicans have done nothing but tax us with wars, deficits, and high energy costs all exacerbating the effects we are now seeing on our planet. A carbon tax which would be revenue neutral would hold businesses accountable for the pollution they make, and I do not believe a company practicing truly sustainable practices would be taxed at the same rate as others. It seems detractors know nothing about these plans but only that Al Gore suggested them so they must be shot down, even though he is but one voice in a chorus of groups and others supporting this, And also, a carbon tax would be better than cap and trade which is too vague, lucrative, and open to manipulation. If businesses and corporations are not willing to do their part in what must be done to curb Co2 emissions then they will have to pay for their pollution with that money going to pursue alternate energy innovation. I say it will be about time and the choice is theirs. We have been paying for it long enough at the gas pump, in giving EXXON record profits while our young men and women die in the sands of the Middle East, and in emergency rooms.

I was once told that to find the truth of any issue, you must follow the money. I suggest that this is good advice for us all! Follow the money on his agenda and the truth will be revealed.

Actually, Al Gore isn't the one that wants to sell you carbon credits, he is just the front man who represents the bankers and whose job it is to sell environmentalism to the public via man made global warming propaganda.

If, Al can separate himself from the sale of "carbon credits", I will respect him. Otherwise, he is another politician, following in his father's footsteps!

Does that sound familar?

Even if Al, can walk on water, I am taxed out!

Things have to change. My 'hope' is Al Gore comes up with a solution which helps the 'many', instead of the 'few'. Al Gore is one of the few individuals I have faith in.

Will this make it to current? Needs to.

It's never too late.

Yes... and I know one hero (a man) who has planted over 7,000 trees! A true patriot!

A voice of reason is definitely in order. And yes, we need a national initiative to plant trees everywhere and use the power of the sun and other visionary energy sources to move this country into the 21st century. And we need to take on "clean coal" as well as the continued propaganda spewed by politicians about oil drilling. Oil drilling, tar sands development, big coal, and nuclear are all destructive dirty energies we must wean ourselves off of in order to stear us from the tipping point.

We need the voice of Al Gore a voice of inspiration and reason to lead us from the global disaster that is upon us. If I read the newspapers correctly today 75% of our nation thinks we should drill offshore to pull us out of the current gasoline price crisis. Go Al! Help our nation and Congress to find a new vision.

We all need to remind the folks in DC that offshore drilling will do nothing for gasoline prices and that this is not the answer.

I tend to not get on the soapbox very often, but every time I go down beautiful I-90-94 between Minneapolis and Chicago I look at all that land on both sides of the expressway just asking for trees...just begging for trees...why aren't there any trees? I say to this GITMO TERRORISTS AND START PLANTING!...That is all...Actually, there is a lot of expressway land begging for pheasant habitat as well...what a waste..plants cool and trap carbon on the short term...meantime we can initiate some long term fixes...

Now this is some lobbying I could take a shine to. Sign me up Mr. Gore.

It will be good to hear from Mr. Gore again on this crucial challenge. I will be looking forward to listening to what he has to say.
