Two Marines apparently killed one of their Camp Pendleton comrades in a dispute over stolen drug money, prosecutors said Thursday.

Lance Cpl. Christian William Carney and Pfc. Alvin Reed Lovely are scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Orange County Superior Court on charges related to the killing of Pfc. Stephen Serrano.

In a statement issued by the Orange County District Attorney's Office, prosecutors allege that Serrano and an unidentified Marine broke into Carney's room at the base on May 9 and stole drug money.

Prosecutors say Carney was dealing ecstasy and cocaine on the base.

Four days later, another unidentified Marine told Carney that he had witnessed two men, including a mutual friend, breaking into Carney's room, prosecutors said. Later that day, Carney and Lovely allegedly met Serrano's alleged accomplice and drove him from the base to a secluded location in San Clemente. They put a gun to the Marine's head and threatened to shoot him if he didn't identify his alleged accomplice in the burglary.

    • I'm not in the least bit surprised.

The only thing I'm surprised about is that this made the
      news.
This happens literally every hour on our streets at home.

And where do these kids in the Marines come from?

      ...

So why would it be any different there?
In fact, it must be worse there, because they're all
getting payed to party and do drugs with free housing.

Take a bunch of drug addicts and put them in a
camo suit. What do you have? This story.

Welcome to the US Armed Forces.

      Man.

Did you all forget Vietnam already?
      Seriously?

And think, we've invaded and are occupying the
world center for heroin as well. Just imagine what's
      happening over there....

    • Why should the military be any different then the rest of the US, after all that’s where they come from, you are going to have a criminal element in every walk of life. I think those that jump on the Marines and start bad mouthing them are showing there true colors, they just don’t like the military at least the US military.. It’s too bad they choose to pump up a story like this rather then all the brave and courageous things the Marines do.

I thought our marines were supposed to be trained to prevent this sort of thing, not cause it. And our government really thinks that we're doing it right?

    • So much for the ad claiming "the best and the brightest... the Marines" Then again maybe that money was actually going to finance a covert team of Marines fighting terrorism Swordfish style.

    • And just think if it were legal and truly regulated and controlled this sort of thing would never have happened. The war on drugs needs to be redirected towards poverty maybe....

    • I can't believe they're stupid and/or greedy enough to shoot someone over the petty profits of selling ecstasy and coke on a military base. Where's the moral character the military is supposed to install in people? Don't members of the armed forces regularly get tested for drugs anyway?

What a shamefully embarrassing incident from all angles.

Yes and here's the irony the less harmful drug cannabis stays in your system longer because it's actually good for you and the "coke" will stay in your system for up to 3 days when the body usually flushes out those impurities, even less if you are working out alot and sweating daily like Marines do, it's no wonder they are resorting to the harder drugs. This is a sad story.

    • What they only test the private sector.I can't believe
employers test cleaners but not the ones who control our lives.I can't see anyone fighting a war high on cocaine or ex. and the dealers right on post how convenient wheres the mp's getting high.
