According to The World Bank "If the wars of the 20th century were fought over oil, the wars of this century will be fought over water."
The Pacific Institute has been tracking water conflicts for over 20 years. Over a two-year period from 2006-7 it documented nine flash points. These included, 12 deaths in Ethiopia after clashes between farmers over competition for water; Tamil Tiger rebels cut the water supply to government-held villages in north-eastern Sri Lanka; Hezbollah rockets damaged a wastewater treatment plant in Israel, the Lebanese government claim their facilities along the Litani River have been damaged in Israeli attacks.

What we need, is Sea Water powered cars. The Result:
A bag of Kosher salt for the Steak at dinner :)
O2 in the Atmosphere, therefore rains and fresh water. The world would become rainy like London, but I guess it's OK.

if it werent for well drilling id be pretty thirsty, dirty etc.. i would think if i had to hand dig my own well i might have to fight over water. i do not doubt there are places where well drilling wouldnt do any good for lack of water. we have the resources on this planet to solve these problems. but its all money.

Since our progeny is human, how would humans thus be replaced?

we will adapt , history shows us that we evolve more rapidly than previously thought. height, weight, bone density etc etc...
and , most importantly, the human mind. "it" creates, on the fly, there is no problem that cannot be solved. Just like this new website, or my "brown water" solar kiln that cooks my waste and sends the evaporated water to my nice green grassy yard.
"we" are already re-engineering ourselves, organ replacements, nano repair of cells etc, while individual humans will die, some harshly some comically, the "race" will change.

the "world" will never be out of water.
regions, over large amounts of time will be wastelands.
then, when humans are replaced by our progeny, we will figure a way to ADAPT, just like every existing plant and animal did through history. - 3 years ago

I carry water out to my plants everyday from water used to heat up my shower. I am taking short showers. I am going to ask my landlord if I can do some grey water system. I am taking action.

You should get one of those recirculates pumps that pump the hot water line into the cold water line ... it recirculates the water until its warmed not wasting a drop

All us humans are doing is killing ourselves, and the ones that are actually doing anything to solve the issues are so outweighed by naysayers that nothing they do is really appreciated.
desalination plants would be a hefty expense at first, but well well well worth it in the long run.

were not going to run out of water, we may turn the greater majority of it into toxic sludge, but its not escaping the atmosphere and its not turning into anything else. and if you were to drill glaciers, you'd kill us all with flooding and diluting the salt content of the ocean altering the currents. clean what we have, and dont dump any more shit in it, we'll be fine on the water situation.

it's because they want to SELL it to us...they've tried it before, selling people their own water, in South American countries (phukn bassturdz) until the people righteously revolted... corporate americans at their best.
(like monsanto who wants a monopoly on the world's food supply...they say one thing pretending to be benign and then viciously do another)

Sounds like another great reason to stop factory farming and eating beef. We make our choices on these issues every day with what we choose to buy and consume.

And the water crisis we have made is not a natural variation of our planet. We placed the poisons in our water. We placed the plastic waste in our water. We continue to spew the GHGs that contribute to drought. We continue to be silent to political leaders. We take water for granted. And now we are paying the price.

i live i a community in oregon on the columbia river where the water is drawn directly from the river, and fed to the city. to think this river is not polluted would be folly. they are doing this in portland out of the willamette as well. i dont like the idea and we could assume future ramifications, but processing polluted water is a very common form of supplying water to our cities today.

At the rate we have been consuming and procreating, we are on the brink of "running out" of many things that are deemed necessary. Is it surprising that water supplies could be waning?!!?
With our wanton ways, our greed, and our urge to over populate,... we are just asking to say goodbye to water, flora, fauna, clean air, fuel, health, peace, and almost every other resource that we depend on..........Depletion is obvious and imminent. Now, if you'll excuse me,... I have to water my lawn, get a new bottle of water, wash my car, go swimming, do laundry, run the dishwasher...........

While that's true that water should be used more efficiently, conservation alone won't solve the problem so both methods should be used.

There will be much less need for salinization and other expensive ways of cleaning water once we all learn how to conserve water in our own homes, there is so much that WE can do and now is the time to start doing it!
Its in our hands, think about how much clean rainwater literally goes straight down the drain off of your roof, gallons and gallons of good clean water that you could use to produce your own food with a cheap irrigation system, you dont even have to buy seeds for a lot of plants such as tomatoes and peppers, chillies, strawberries etc just save them when you are cooking, you can even nourish the soil with your own home compost to produce lovely organic food!
what about all that "grey water" that is wasted every day at your house?
its not vastly expensive to put in rainwater butts and diverting grey water into tanks is usually relatively easy for a lot of homes...
We can do the research ourselves and see what we can ALL do at home as individuals
a relatively small investment now will save you such a lot of money in the long run - 3 years ago

That's why they need to invest in more desalinization since water is abundant, it's just freshwater that's not

Hey whats done is done, the important thing to think about now is what can YOU do right now and what plans can you make personally, in order to help change things for the better?
Negativity and blaming wont help, but YOU can help.
Its not radical or survivalist or wierd or impossible to produce your own sustainable energy or to grow your own food or to conserve water and energy, (just as it is no longer unfashionable to buy your clothes in charity shops, nowadays its cool because its "recycling")My personal plans are these: I am doing everything I can to save water and energy and reduce waste of all kinds in my own home.
I am in the process of getting for a grant to help to put in a Ground Source heat pump at my house so that I can produce my own sustainable energy, you can do it too! see http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk
I have purchased a greenhouse and am currently researching ways to use my old bathwater to irrigate the greenhouse and some raised garden beds for producing my own organic food. with a relatively small investment I can not only save myself a LOT of money but I can also help to improve things in my own small way and more importantly set an example for others to copy
THIS is our future it is time to embrace it!
do some research! Find out what YOU can do!

I find it rather amazing that scientific evidence continues to pile up about the ways that we are killing our planet but no one seems willing to do anything proactive about it. We're such a reactive society; we wait until we're in dire circumstances before we act. Imagine what would happen if we actually acted before there was a global crisis.

We should be drilling glaciers for water instead of drilling beneath the surface for damned oil! Don't just let that water melt due to climatic change and desalinize our oceans while flooding low-lying coasts worldwide. What the hell are we waiting for as gov't and as people?!
