The group intends to rehabilitate and release as many of the animals as possible and replace them with virtual and animatronic exhibits.
Some marine experts call the PETA offer merely a stunt, citing the difficulties of releasing animals raised in captivity into the wild.

[i know this is over a year old...but anywhoo]
replacing the animals with robot animals?
the whole reason sea world is so successful (apart from their overpriced everything) is because it allows folks to see animals they would NEVER see in there daily lives.

PETA's intentions are from the heart but, realistically WTF? In the grander scheme of things if people don't commit to taking care of the planet on all levels, there aren't going to be any animals to worry about; including humans.

I'm now forming PETR... People for Ethical Treatment of Robots! For too long our electronic brethren have been treated like subhuman entities! Robots have rights too!

What most people don't realize is that if you free these animals who have been pampered all their life into the wild, all these gangster sharks and fish will eat them all. Actually, most would be too lazy to go find food themselves.

It is really sad to see animals in captivity....I totally stopped going to the zoo. Maybe if PETA can buy the park at least they can try to slow the business of birthing animals for profit and exploitation. Poor whales and dolphins have been completely robbed...performing for dinner.

This is hilarious to me. I don't want to even ruin it for myself by over thinking it and getting all political. All I have to say is LOL, this is right out of a movie or something.

This is stoopid. You can't "rehabilitate" animals and release them into the wild like that. They're captive and have learned to expect dead fish to be fed to them on a daily basis.
And I know someone is going to say that their survival instincts will kick in. If you really thought that, then you would be comfortable releasing you dog or your cat (wait not cat) or your horse? If I put my turtles into a pond tomorrow, I know I'd be seeing some empty shells in a few weeks.

Wasn't the whole purpose of Sea World to educate people about sea life, and how we should respect it?

Half empty indeed.
Wouldn't the animals that have been living in captivity not be able to survive in the wild? I know we all loved Free Willy, but that was just a movie.

I think the purpose of Sea World was to make money. But all the Sea World facilities are up for sale. The company that is buying Anheuser-Busch does not want to keep this part of the business.
I think PETA's efforts here are primarily to get some of the animals out of captivity. Many of these, particularly whales and dolphins, should not be in captivity at all.

The only way it would work is if they made a moive about it like "Free Shamu" to cover the costs.
I doubt people would pay to see virtual and animatronic exhibits since the draw of SeaWorld has always been live animals.
They do have supporters with large finances but I doubt they would want to lose that much money when the park goes belly up because they couldn't keep it running so it's not a very practical idea.

The robots better splash!
I remember from over ten years ago, the coolest part was all the kids lined up right next to the glass and then get all wet every time Samu here did a big trick. And yeah, the future of SeaWorld? Bankrupt.

PETA can't afford sea world. and if they could, they would lose it the minute the replaced those animals with robots...
I would hope that SeaWorld had the funds and hearts to take good care of their animals, but noone is going to see robot animals...why would you do that...just...why?
silly peta.

Lets put you in a tank and make you perform for people. You will be well taken care of though. Animals should have the same rights we do. What's that one we keep talking about in America? Oh, yes. Freedom.

yep. animals should vote, pay taxes, go to college.
however, due to back taxes and a consistent absentee voting record they ought to be condemned to perform in a tank.
you (maxamust) and peter singer can go and join them in the wild. and take your hair product too.
