The new research indicates that drugs targeting CB2 receptors offer a new way of treating pain in clinical conditions where there are currently few effective or safe treatments, such as chronic pain caused by osteoarthritis and pain from nerve damage. It could also provide an alternative treatment for acute pain, such as that experienced following surgical operations.

I read about this and it's a few years out.
I am excited about it. It addresses more pain issues, but is not likely to be abused. Can't wait until it's here. Too many moderate and severe (me) pain patients don't have very many options. Doctors are reluctant to perscribe adequate medicine for pain control.
My last "pain specialist", the only one here that accepts medicare, took me off the pain medicine that I had been on for 6 years, and was actually working.
Did not help me with the detox.
And gave me a tens unit instead. Yeah that worked. NOT!
Then he discharged me because I wasn't making "progress".Lovely eh?

Isn't blocking pain an effect on the brain?

Gosh I hope Big Pharma manufactures this new drug. I would so rather pay much much more for it than use a naturally occuring, cheaper drug. Thanks!
Sarcasm aside, the pharmaceutical lobby has long worked against herbal medicines because they can't make any profit off of something they can't patent.

How about this-just legalize pot once & for all-it's a weed that that grows wild in nature. Now that the gov't realizes they've completely lost the war on drugs they're going to continue the insanity by giving some Big Pharma a patent & saleable rights on pot derived pharmaceuticals that have identical properties & effects as smoking it!?
How much bullshit does our gov’t think it can cram down our throats about a substance, not only far safer than cigarettes & alcohol that are constantly promoted for generating vast amounts of taxes, but to now choose a profit driven corporation over an individuals right direct access to the sweet medicinal leaf?

Yeah, not surprising at all. It's kind of what you would expect.

I'm glad to see science progress, but there's nothing like smoking a nice fat bud. There's been a lot of studies with synthetic marijuana- even the lab rats go for the real deal over the man made cannabis every time!

There is added bonus to smoking or ingesting cannabis against pain - the beneficial effects on the brain!

haha my favorite part of the article is when they say queen victoria took cannabis with her tea to help with period pain :D (i thought they already knew it helped with pain treatment? so what's the deal?) do you think the government will actually listen to the study?
