Please note that the content of the article was provided by "Parade Magazine" a world renown leader in nutrition and health (that's sarcasm for the nuance impaired). I always take articles like this with a grain of salt (no pun intended).

is it just me or is anyone seeing a pattren in these things?
first its with the corn syrup.
they told us its bad.
and that its just going to kill you in the end.
so alot of us stopped using it.
and now their trying to tell us that its ok and we should drink it.
that thing about the canned and frozen food is just a trick that i hope no one will fall for but i know some of us will. - 3 years ago

I suddenly have a craving for all those sweets and burgers in the pictures. Does that mean my body needs them?

eat lots of fruits and vegetables. plain and simple.
Fresh or frozen does not matter just eat them.We are all biologically different, but food eaten in its raw natural form is one thing that everyone benefits from.
Do it. You'll feel better.and yea I too want to eat my laptop right now those pics look delicious. drool

Can't believe people are voting for this. Some of the myths are pure bollocks. Especially the advice to eat 3 meals a day. If you want to be lean you need six meals 3 hours apart to maintian an anabolic state.

I like the frozen fruits and veggie one as well as the canned one oh and the cooking one.
People add more fear to things than necessary and it's contagious.

Your body is not smart in the way that it can "demand" a certain kind of food through a craving; we didn't evolve with doughnuts after all...

THIS IS THE WORST FOOD AND NUTRITION ARTICLE I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS!
holy cow. really. i am amazed at the things people get published.
i suggest to people really interested in food myths to read anything written by Michael Pollen
and go from there- it is a good jumping off point into the debate about how we eat and how we learned to eat.
and ps...i never once thought banannas were fattening.

I agree. This article is like many i have read recently that try and twist a good piece of science to support their theory.

"It's better to eat six mini meals than three squares.
INCORRECT!
As long as your food choices for the entire day are healthy and not too high in calories, either eating style can work."
Well I can tell you for a fact that that isn't true. Eating small, frequent meals puts your body into purge mode. Your body essentially says "OK, we seem to be getting meals all the time at the same time, so I guess it's ok to let go of all the extra stuff I've been holding onto."
-----------------------
"Cravings are your body's way of telling you it needs something.NOT TRUE!
It's a convenient excuse, but a craving is not a signal that your body "needs" a specific nutrient... Cravings are driven by emotions and psychology. We crave foods we enjoy and associate with pleasurable times. For example, you may crave hamburgers because you downright love the taste, or because you have strong and happy memories of eating them at family barbecues—not because you're deficient in protein or iron. Of course, hormonal changes also can be responsible for cravings. Ice cream and pickles, anyone?"
That's not completely true. If you see milk and all of a sudden you just have to have it, chances are your body's a little low in calcium. I once saw these elephants in the desert who used their trunks to dig through dirt to get to some clay that had special minerals and nutrients in it and ate it. They just knew that they needed it; I'm sure they didn't like it for the taste.

I'm not sure about the frozen vs. fresh veggies, but everything else seems ok. - 3 years ago

you sound very very sure of yourself... interesting since we don't understand half of what our body tells us on a daily basis. i think there is a lot of truth to this thinking if you let it be true- frequently when i am tired i crave things like spinach and greens because my iron is low. animals know what to eat but we are so far removed from our instincts we have to rely on commercials and what is available.
you seemed irate over this statement but it was not even close to the most stupid statement in the article...

I'm not really mad at it, just a little irritated that something I've read in books and heard from my doctor is flippantly accused of being false in this article. That's all.

Frozen veggies are often fresher than fresh veggies because they go from picked to frozen faster. Fresh veggies take longer to go from picked to consumption.

i find it interesting how everyone who brings this up focuses on the wrong point. Everyone says several small meals isn't better then less larger meals. calorie wise, your right. But that method is all about raising your metabolism. And I can tell you right now, for that, it works for sure.
