    • Bush Ignores Law Protecting Grand Canyon as Uranium Mining Claims Soar

815 Mining Claims within 5 Miles of Grand Canyon National Park

As the world prepares for peak oil we are going to go into a fast transition of building nuclear powerplants faster than anything we have seen since the industrial revolution. We must learn about this topic and we must take a stand immediately to stop uranium mining all over the world

    • While I was searching for the story V talked about I stumbled upon this website that features stories of indigenous peoples fights against uranium mining in their tribal lands.

    • Perhaps you should tweak your video - render it again in the right proportions as the picture on this one is slightly distorted vertically, which might preclude it from being aired on TV. Never mind if there are black bands on the sides, that's okay so long as the picture is in the correct proportion.

This said, I remember reading a few years ago that the world is fast running out of uranium, that there is only enough uranium left in the world to last about twenty years if no new nuclear plants are built - hence the desperate efforts at mining it in protected areas and against the will of the people whose land it is on.

There's an Australian aborigine who owns and controls a huge tract of land which happens to be very rich in uranium ore - he refuses to sell his land, it is sacred to his people. The problem is that he has no children or family to whom he can bequeath it, so after he dies, the Australian government is bound to grab his land and immediately begin mining. I can't remember where I saw the article about this, it was a few years ago, and I can't find it with google.

    • I second that motion. This video and the content need to be on the airwaves. Uranium is a dangerous substance that causes much environmental damage. The track record has not been good with regard to the way the companies that get the contracts handle the tasks. They have proven themselves to not care about the damage and clean it up and do it safely.

    • Another great source of learning is from listening to the voices of the people who live the reality. "Boom Bust and back again" does that.

We can educate ourselves by putting our feet on the ground in the places we have used and forgotten for the "betterment" of our society. "Boom Bust and back again" does that.

We can recognize that issues like this are often neglected because they get lost in tangential obsessions like winning popularity contests.

what can we learn from each other?
What do we really know about each other?

You mean to say, now we can corner the yellowcake market, and then accuse ourselves of spreading global terror? Hot Damn!

Does that mean that we could also sell munitions to other countries wanting to protect themselves from us?

      Damn! We've got everything covered!

Except for the sanity market...No will to invest in that, it seems.

    • Thank you willbpayne! You hit on the reason for this piece. People are thinking uranium can be a solution to energy problem but there are consequences.
